What do you spend on your average weeklong vacation?
Trying not to psych myself out of our potential $3.5k trip. |
|
Flights for 4: $1,600
Hotel for 5 nights: (often points, but without call is $1,000) Car/gas: $200 Meals: $500 Tickets/entertainment: $500 All in about $4k for a fly to destination Driving to the beach: Maybe $3k because it's mostly house rental |
|
obviously this question needs more detail. weeklong vacation to where?
beach? domestic? europe? asia? Africa? cruise? |
If you're taking "average weeklong" trips to Europe or Africa, the question is probably irrelevant. |
| Average domestic or Caribbean vacation with flying is about 4-5k for 4 of us. |
What? No one goes to Europe or Africa for a week? Ever? |
I wouldn't consider an average vacation to be one to Europe or Africa. That's not average. If it is for you, I don't think the cost is relevant. Understand? |

Weeks stay with Granny:
$1100 airfare $300 car plus gas ? Not sure DH reserved this $200 meals $ 100 activities for 2 preteens $2000 or less total |
| Our beach week is usually around 3K. We are doing a National Park trip (which is fairly average for us) with flights and hotels for 4 days for about the same. If we went for a week, it might end up being closer to 4K. |
| $2500 for a driving vacation, where we rent a house for a week. + or minus $500. |
| Beach week is around $4k/week for 4 people. |
| Wholly depends on what your vacation is like. Disney (massive daily cost with amusement park tix at essentially $1000 a day for some families) versus beach front property (low daily cost once you're situated). Driving to locations or flying? Staying with family, in a hotel or using points? |
|
DH is a frequent traveler, so we go for free on points and miles. We budget $200 a day for food and activity (usually less) for a European or S. American trip. The hotel and airfare are free.
Maybe this isn't what you're asking for, but a lot of people are getting nearly free trips because of stuff like that. |
| Totally depends on the week/destination. Our most expensive is a week of skiing at Christmas which is peak season. That runs about $10k for 4 people. When we ski in the spring it's much less. A week at our own beach house, setting aside the cost of buying and maintaining the house, is maybe $100 for gas/tolls to drive there, about $1000 if we fly. Groceries are the same as at home, and most activities are free (beach, kayaking, etc.). |
This. I max out my credit card rewards. So over the last 2 years we have done weeklong vacations to Japan, South Africa, Caribbean, etc. All of these trips had either free airfare or free hotel. |
