I always try to stay under $6k, but we usually go for 10 days.
This year we are flying to New Orleans for 2 days, then getting on a cruise ship for a week. Flights: 300*3 Hotel: $225*2 Cruise: $2500 Incidentals: $400? ish (we will literally spend nothing once on the ship since it's all prepaid/included, so that's just food and entry fees for the 2 days in NO.) $4250ish for 9 days. |
| Maybe $5-7K, but my DH travels a lot so we always use hotel and airline points. We get really nice vacations for that amount plus the points. We do this once a year typically, and shorter trips throughout the year. |
| If I had $3500, I would probably take a $3500 vacation. As it is, we drive, stay with family and try to avoid eating out; $1000. |
NP. You may have literally more than a million miles, but you aren't that savvy. This statement is nonsensical. |
| We usually don't go for a full week but we spend around $5-10k depending on where/when we go. |
| Same as PP -- $5k-$10k typically for family of 5. Last summer, fancy all-inclusive resort in New England in July is $10,000 for a week. This summer, week at beachfront cottage in Carolinas is @$7000. Drive to both. Fly to Colorado for skiing at spring break and stay at mid-level hotel -- $7500+. We use hotel and card miles for ski trip, so actually much cheaper than $7,500. |
| We go to a beach that is within driving distance. No kids, we always split a house or condo with two other couples we are friends with. The cost for the house is usually around $700 per couple and then we budget $1000 for the two of us to eat out and for gas. We each kinda just buy what we want if we go to the outlets or shopping, and we aren't big drinkers. We take alcohol with us to keep at the house. I'd guess it comes to about $2500 or a little less for two of us including spending money and any extras that pop up. |
+1 Nine-night cruise out of Baltimore: ~$4300 for four of us. |
Why is it nonsensical? Considering you have to eat on the go for nearly all meals, it IS expensive. You're either paying for meals through your hotel or at a restaurant or on the go, but unlikely able to carry a cooler out on a daily basis), it is more expensive than eating here. http://ee24.com/daily/analytics/the-most-expensive-and-cheap-european-countries-according-to-their-cost-of-living/ Read this article. I doubt many people are going to the cheaper places in Europe (1. Macedonia 2. Bosnia and Herzegovina 3. Albania 4. Serbia 5. Romania 6. Bulgaria 7. Kosovo 8. Montenegro 9. Hungary 10. Poland 11. Turkey Food is expensive ANYWHERE if you're eating on the go for every meal, meal after meal, after meal. (Go eat at an amusement park and tell me if you think it is cheap.) |
| We spend one week for $8,000 each year. Then our budget fluctuates every other year where we spend another $2000 - $6000 on another vacation during that year. |
carrying a cooler? "food is expensive anywhere"? eating at amusement parks? seriously how do you travel? you've never found affordable cafes, plats du jour, or menus del dia in paris, madrid, lisbon, rome, etc? or do you only stick to the main tourist streets and disney theme parks? |
I've always found subway and train travel in Europe and Asia to be more pleasing, less expensive, and covering greater distance than the US. Most major cities have a tourist package- bundle of 10 tickets, etc. I'm really not seeing the snark and holier than thou attitude. You honestly sound a bit provincial and naive. Lots of sweeping generalizations, many inaccurate. |
| $3-12k, depending on time and location |
| We just went to Disney and spent more than our trip to Europe last year. Europe does not automatically mean expensive. |
Exactly. I can eat very well, and very affordably throughout Europe. Cannot say that for Disney or other amusement parks. |
