Brilliant. King’s landing is definitely on fire after tonight.

I think it was William. Harry made clear it was in a conversation about what hypothetical children would look like. This tracks with previous reports that Harry was engaged by some conversation he had with William about reservations that William had about Meghan. And, inexplicably, Oprah mentioned William as she transitioned to asking Harry about the skin tone conversation.

In normal families, that's a normal question.

Neither Harry nor Meghan seemed willing to accept it as a normal question.

+100000 The race hustling crazies are grasping at straws here hoping to con gullible white people. That is a 100% normal question to ponder.

White chick here. Not normal. Really ill intended. Have you ever had this discussion with a friend in a biracial relationship that was expecting? Would you ask it over lunch with work colleagues if it's so "normal"? GTFOH.

I am the white mother of two mixed-race kids. I had a white work colleague ask me what I thought my oldest would look like when I was pregnant with him. I never took offense.

And tbh some of the most race-obsessed people are POC. Like the Dominicans. The Dominican cleaning women at that job thought my husband was acceptable bc he was light-skinned and not dark-skinned.

Do you know the Dominicans are POC or you assume they are POC? You know they can be white?

Ok, Kayleigh. (McEnany)

Speaking of millennial layabouts who have had everything in their lives handed to them (in Kayleigh’s case, because of her ideology.) Yes I am aware she got into Harvard Law, likely due to affirmative action for conservative ideologues.

Oh no Harry's father cut him off financially at age 36!

How obsessed are you with this woman that you're refreshing and monitoring multiple outlets? Sounds unhealthy.

NP and I agree with the person before you. On Twitter there a lot a lot of enraged black Americans, meanwhile catty Karens on DCUM are tone deaf to their own nastiness. I'm not a Meghan-stan, and yet you all remind me of the Britney haters. So.much.misogyny.

Is it catty Karens, or are these conservative troll posters?

White woman here: this whole conversation trying to excuse the skin color comment is INSANE. The posters talking about hair are deranged.

I just cannot believe real honest people are trying to excuse it. Please tell me these are the conservative Heritage employees and basement Fox-watchers that are trolling us.

I sure wish that was the case, but there is a large section of white women who think Meghan "controls" Harry, she is a manipulative b, and despite the fact that most of my friends of color would find the "how dark will his skin be" comment racially motivated, these women think it it's totally innocuous and has no deeper implication. They don't want to do any of the hard work for a just society, they find it exhausting because their life is all about them. I can't imagine defending that comment and thinking you aren't part of white supremacy. But of course that's why we have an ongoing problem, and will for some time.

If you are so apt to stereotype white women, you are more of a part of the problem than you realize.

But somehow he still managed to scrape together enough spare change for the multi-million-dollar mansion required!

They didn’t mention this at all.

Did you read the article you posted? They were considered protected persons until they stepped down.

I used to work on the same floor as these women. I know what they looked like. I am very well aware that Dominicans can also be white.

If Harry isn't going to give the details of the skin color conversation, he shouldn't have brought it up. Of course, it's more damaging if he doesn't give details, because then people can imagine the details.

Can we stop dragging American politics into a discussion about British royalty? I'm firmly pro-Meghan and conservative. American conservatives don't really take a position on royal issues. And for the record, I think asking someone whether their child's skin will be dark if they have kids with a black woman is incredibly racist.

I think there’s a few things we need to clear up, when it comes to the security issue (clearly a focus of the interview):

1. The Canadian Government was providing security through March 2020, as was typical practice. It was thought that Harry and Meghan were on an extended holiday and the Canadian Government had an agreement with the Metropolitan Police Department (London).

That ended in March, when Harry and Meghan said they were no longer going to be working royals, because the Canadian Government said they no longer had an obligation to have their taxpayers pay for security for what amounted to private citizens. The UK taxpayers were of the same mind at the time. Why pay for security for people who didn’t live in the UK and didn’t contribute to the royal family?

2. It’s unclear to me how much truly private money the royal family has. People seem to have the impression they could simply pay for security for Harry and Meghan. Their normal security is done through the government. How much money do they have that is outside the Sovereign Grant (which the UK taxpayers give them)? What can they do with that money?

Before we decide that Harry and Meghan were unfairly deprived of security, we need an understanding of what latitude the royal family actually has with the money they have.

He doesn't have to give the details. He said skin color was a repeated topic of conversation. That's really not normal.

Harry and Meghan are wealthy private citizens who can pay for their own security if they deem it necessary. Why on earth should this be on the taxpayer's dime, or even the family?

I’d never seen either of them talk before today and don’t follow much of the blow by blow on them (until today).

He seems MUCH more intelligent, reasoned and sane than I expected him to be. She has Hollywood about her, but she’s also clearly a real human.

It was very interesting to hear about the job vs family bits of this.

The punch I really heard him pulling is that the royal family puts up with, even fosters, the tabloid press because if the tabloid press turns on them, there’s no real argument for the BRF in 2021. I respect him for not going all the way to saying this; it would make the whole thing collapse faster if he did.

I predict he lands on top.

It’s worth noting that Meghan opened the interview by telling Oprah Winfrey she hadn’t researched the royal family at all prior to joining it. By about 40 minutes into the program, she was casually referring to the letters patent of George V.

Or when she flew to NY just to watch a tennis game? Girl can’t even keep her lies straight.

She didn’t say she was literally trapped. She said that, when just chilling at home, there wasn’t a path to just up and leave and check herself into a hospital. She had a security detail, they didn’t want her to go. She knew what sneaking out in the night to check into a hospital would do, spawn another 20,000 headlines. She didn’t have a car, she couldn’t spontaneously go to the airport because she didn’t have her passport physically. If you can’t understand the idea of being in a place and knowing you cannot really truly go anywhere and that you’re being followed (protected) by people that work for people who have told you a to sit tight. Well you doing have much compassion.

A woman of her means could afford a concierge doctor who would do house calls. Chrissy Teigen’s doctor would come to her home to do ultrasounds during her pregnancy. No need to expose oneself to the great unwashed.
