To you, what's the bottom of the "elite" colleges?

People think that Columbia is a country. Penn and Chicago have national brands that are recognized by the public and media.

Just when you thought this thread couldn’t get any stupider. Barely a thread goes by, including this page of this thread, where someone doesn’t confuse Penn and Penn State. I’m from PA and had siblings at both — these schools are confused all the time. And Chicago? It’s worse than saying “Boston” and assuming the whole world knows what you mean.

*now the previous page of this thread

This thread reads like SNL. It can’t be real. Will the true UPenn or Columbia grads please stand? I don’t think there’s a single UPenn or Columbia grads on here. These are all fake posts by DMV fake strivers who went to Podunk universities.

Can't believe this thread is still going. How sad.

Penn boosters are really something else, lol. Everyone remembers when Penn was the least desirable Ivy with like a 60%+ acceptance rate only a couple decades ago. Your school is masterful at fabricating history, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if you conveniently forgot about that inconvenient fact.

The Wharton School of Business was the best or tied for best from what I remember. Maybe you are thinking philosophy majors or something

No one cares. Columbia has always, always been considered the better school above Penn.

Rational persons care.
Wharton School of Business is elite at the level of HYPSM and clearly above Columbia. UPenn (excluding Wharton) is just below Columbia. Simple. Non-controversial.

The insistence on separating one sub-unit of the school is such damning proof that Penn is, in fact, an inferior and insecure school. No other school does this. It's really quite embarrassing.

Wharton’s peer schools are HYPSM. Columbia’s peers are Brown, Dartmouth, and Cornell.

Agree w this

The fact that Penn, Columbia and Chicago people spend so much time fighting with each other over which school is somehow closest to HYPSM only magnifies the gap between those schools.

In any case, the relative stagnation of Philadelphia compared to NYC has boosted Columbia’s appeal at Penn’s expense. It’s also sad the way some Penn boosters resort to cleaving off Wharton (which is generally perceived as a trade school at the undergraduate level). The fact that Penn’s business school has a strong reputation moves the needle only slightly more than, say, UNC-Chapel Hill having a top-ranked pharmacy program.

It’s not the true UPenn or Columbia people. These are fake people.

Princeton University (NJ)
Harvard University (MA)
Yale University (CT) (tie)
Columbia University (NY) (tie)
Stanford University (CA) (tie)

That's it folks - those are the ONLY schools that are so elite they NEVER require explanation.

Of course Penn's Wharton School and Cornell's Hotel school are elite - but that's the point you have to specify the particular program. The other Top 25 schools are terrific, but there are NOT in the same class.

I liked how you snuck Columbia in there.

The Columbia booster never quits.

This thread was basically resurrected by this foolish comment here after someone mentioned how no one confuses caltech with cal poly. There’s a lot of Columbia trolling on this forum ever since they became #2 on US News. Personally I believe that they shouldn’t be that high in the ranking, but there must be people who are particularly jealous about this.

Can you stop with the trolling??? If you are going to do it, then be more good at it.

There’s no one boosting Columbia. It’s only Penn and Chicago worshipping and Columbia bashing. Sometimes people come in to defend Columbia out of the ridiculous comments that they make here (like the logic that Columbia students must be stupid because of that one troll thread on this forum), but that’s about it. I truly hope that these people are not actual Penn/Chicago alums. If they actually are, I hope that people understand that they are not representative of the students and alums from there.

Really oozing class and confidence...

Most people on this thread are talking about Columbia and UPenn with some occasional pot shots at Northwestern and UChicago. I’m not seeing any NW or UC boosterism.

It comes with the territory. People attack Biden and Harris because they are #1 and #2 in the USA. Who the hell is #3? Whoever s/he is, no one cares. Princeton and Columbia gets all the hate bc of they are #1 and #2. No one even cares to attack #3 because of the gap between #3 and #1.

NOBODY gave shit about Northwestern then and now. It’s a sexual pervert school.

You have a serious issue and an obsession. No one gives a shit about your mindless ranting.

If you went to that school in Evanston, sit down and be quiet. You don’t have many schools to look down on.

No relation to Northwestern but there is a crazed poster on DCUM who appears anytime Northwestern so much as gets mentioned on this forum and repeats the same hatespiel over and over again. It’s really quite bizarre.

The schools that are truly elite are the ones whose alumni do not feel obligated to boost or defend their schools on a forum like this.

There seem to be about 3 weirdo regular posters in here and the rest just occasionally check in to see how long this nonsense will continue.

There are no true alums on here. All the derogatory info are things anyone can google. There's no inside information true alums are expected to have, even against “rival” schools. They all have friends and family members who attend or attended these schools. It's unusual to have the entire family attend one ivy.

Absolutely NO ONE gives a flying crap about Princeton. Everyone knows the #1 ranking is a complete fluke. It’s the most forgettable and least impressive of the upper crust universities.
