And your proof is...what exactly? You sound jealous: found an ED2 Rice reject right here. |
Are you 12? My kid was admitted in the SCEA round. I thought op's post was suspicious from the original post and then she goes missing for 40 pages, and then conveniently comes back to claim acceptance at a school unlike every other school her kid applied to, and also don't known for what her kid is interested in. If it makes you feel good to believe it, go ahead. |
Not everyone refreshes DCUM 24/7 like you do, and this thread blew up quickly. Besides, Rice is not very different from the other schools her kid applied to. People like to cast their nets wide these days with applications. And nobody asked if your kid got into a school SCEA. Frankly, nobody falls for that trick anymore. |
Sorry but if you do club sports w/ kids, it’s pretty easy to see how much work they’re doing. My kid is the one declining the fun events at tournaments bc he has to do a ton of hw while his teammates don’t even bring backpacks or computers to long weekend tournaments. He can also see when there online playing games, the hundreds of messages and game invites sent in the team chats, etc. They can also sign up for a ton more fitness sessions and that type of thing bc they generally have minimal hw. I know not all public’s are like this, but ours definitely is |
What trick? PP suggested my kid didn't get into Rice, not the case. Not the least bit jealous because my kid already accepted his SCEA offer. My other kid is a junior in college and didn't apply to Rice. I didn't believe op's original post and I don't believe today's. Probably not even the same poster. YMMV. |
If your thread "blew up quickly" would you post in it only twice in a 10 day period? Just not buying it. |
Read the last sentence. The odds of knowing multiple Harker students at not T5 is pretty much nil. Not very many of them anywhere. |
This was OP's first reply on her thread. She didn't go silent for 10 days. Congrats on getting into a strong option in ED2, OP! 3.7 unweighted (from a competitive private), 1550 SAT is a strong profile and I thought OP would eventually get good news and she did for her DD! |
NP, and I get what you're saying. My son is like yours, but in public school. He had a ton of work throughout HS and often passed up social events and breaks to do HW and study. We also didn't take a real vacation for the past 4 years, except for short road trips here and there. Breaks were spent catching up on schoolwork and other projects. I think this is more about the type of kids who were in the sport with your kid. Of course there are kids who work hard in both public and private, and also those who don't work hard at all in public and private. I have friends who take frequent vacations throughout high school and they're also the same ones who often share how their kids are struggling in their classes! Kids and families can make different choices. |
Congrats! ED2 Rice is as competitive as, if not more than, its RD. But I guess the binding nature of ED2 helps if everything else fits. Wonderful outcome! |
Agreed. People calling OP a troll were making knee-jerk opinions. OP did comment again but those comments got lost in the volume of this 40-page thread! Here's OP's 1st comment clarifying the unweighted GPA: "OP with girl from private. She has a 3.7 unweighted as of end of junior year. Almost nobody has over a 3.8. No grade inflation really." Later, OP updated that her humanities major DD got into her ED2 and is all set and that the school is a "T20" for those who are nosy. |
Yep. Nothing wrong with ED2. If you're in, you're in! |
By your own admission, there are quite a few Harker students at Stanford and MIT. My daughter, attends one of those schools. She knows some Harker students and says they are bright and well-read. I’m not sure why you are insisting this is not true. But whatever. |
+1 |
Congrats on your DD finally being done and getting into their 2nd choice, OP! That's a great result and I'm sure you're relieved for no more waiting. I'm sure your DD would have also done great in RD rounds but great news is it's over now. 3.7 UW private + 1550 SAT + AP 5's - is a strong record she should be proud of. Congrats on the great result!! Everyone needs to realize this is a marathon, not sprint, and more information is yet to come ... And OP - please withdraw those applications that are still out there. Thank you! |
