I have yet to see anything other than outrage at political violence and prayers for Kirk, on Blueskye/the left. I am curious as that what posts you are seeing that are causing problems for you.

Chris Kluwe reposted the “me sowing/me reaping” meme. Also lots of people posting that clip where he says “unfortunately we are going to have some gun deaths.”

As I said in my follow up, tasteless but not justifying it and most posts are rightly condemning.

I am not seeing the problem with posting Kirk's own quotes.

Because all gun violence should be condemned. Mentioning that quote the context of a convo or an article about him would be fine but simply posting that (and only that) moments after he’s been shot is different and if you can’t see that I don’t know what to tell you.

It’s the type of reaction Trump would have if someone he was opposed to was shot, tbh. Personally, I don’t want to be anything like Trump but maybe you don’t mind it.

NP. Your belief is that all gun violence should be condemned, but that's not Charlie Kirk's belief. He thinks gun violence, and specifically political gun violence, is valuable enough that the power to commit such violence should be a constitutional right.

You are full of shit.

This is some more of what he said:

"The Second Amendment is there, God forbid, so that you can defend yourself against a tyrannical government. And if that talk scares you-- wow, that's radical, Charlie, I don't know about that. Well, then you have not really read any of the literature of our Founding Fathers. Number two, you've not read any 20th century history. You're just living in Narnia. By the way, if you're actually living in Narnia, you would be wiser than wherever you're living, because C.S. Lewis was really smart. So I don't know what alternative universe you're living in. You just don't want to face reality that governments tend to get tyrannical and that if people need an ability to protect themselves and their communities and their families."

"Defend yourself against a tyrannical government" is another way of saying (a particular type of) political violence. He supports that. I imagine a lot of us do, even many of the people talking about how violence is never the answer, but Charlie Kirk definitely does. He thinks there's a time and place to shoot people for political reasons. That's not "full of shit" that's the truth.

In America we do not shoot people because their speech is unpopular. At least, that is how it should be.

That’s absolutely how it should be but it isn’t and never has been.

This has got to make other political contrarians pause as to their own safety. A wake-up call to many of them

It's not a just a gun problem, it's a culture problem.

Our country's culture is nothing to be envied.

How do you think this response was in comparison to Melissa Hortman's assassination?

She was not nationally known.

she was an elected official

But Trump removes protection for Kamala Harris and others out of spike. He has some nerve.

+1 this is dysfunctional and chaotic.

Kirk was the most milquetoast of the pundits. He would talk with and listen to anyone who wanted to talk to him.

Gun ownership is a right and different than murdering an innocent with a gun.

Why liberals are snarky and sarcastic about this is beyond me; it’s not what we do in our country.

omg you have to be joking. Do you plug your ears when Trump speaks? Not see his tweets?

We don’t kill peoples we disagree with. At least most of us don’t. Democrats seem fine with it.

Don't be absurd. Did you even read what you wrote? Most Democrats don't kill people they disagree with either, obviously. The vast, vast majority of people of all political persuasions denounce political violence. It's outliers on both sides who engage in this sort of activity.

Statements like yours only contribute to the problem of an "us v. them" mentality.

Talk to the people who are fanning the hate. Talk to the people who call Democrats animals and say we need to be suppressed. Talk to the people putting guns on the street.

Did you hear about the killing of Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman in Minnesota? Or her husband or colleague by a Republican supporter?

+1

And Mike Lee of all people laughed and made jokes!!

It takes reporting comments that violate it for it to be enforced.

also, there's some crazy anti-Jewish posts popping up all over this thread and other political threads. So moderators are busy.

President Trump has ordered all American flags to be lowered to half-staff until Sunday evening at 6 p.m. in honor of Kirk.

It’s just awful. That poor guy was assassinated for being conservative.

Same happens to the lawmakers from Minnesota.

You separate people into groups and make them hate one another so you can run them all.

We must stand resolutely against political assassination and political violence of all kinds, and just as resolutely against everyone who exploits acts of violence as the pretext or excuse for political repression of political opponents.

I stand with Josh on this.

Agree. I hope some level-headed leader(s) will speak up.

Political violence is abhorrent and not justifiable.

It is hard, though, to swallow what will be coming from the right wing following this event and all the spinning they will do.
