No they don't. They ARE discussing ways to push back aggressively, mirroring the aggressive moves by MAGA in recent weeks. But "firing all the VA Supreme Court justices" is not one of those things. So just stop.

But. now seems a good time to remind everyone that at least 3 SCOTUS judges lied during confirmation hearings. And Gorsuch should never have been appointed when he was. I'll give Repubs their props for playing the long game, sticking to the script (regardless of the mistruths in it), and power grabs to get where they are now on the Court. But if you think Dems should now unilaterally lay down arms bc things are aggressive or pushing boundaries?

Is this what the maga cult is telling you to think?

The gop has declared war on democracy, Americans should certainly play to win.

"Ensuring the plan proceeds would involve the General Assembly, which is controlled by Democrats, lowering the mandatory retirement age for Virginia’s Supreme Court from 75 to 54, the age of the youngest current justice, or less. Virginia judges are appointed by the General Assembly, where Democrats hold majorities in both chambers and could then fill vacancies on the court with sympathetic Democratic lawyers."

Won't work. Virginia constitution already provides a mechanism for impeachment, and Democrats can't impeach by calling it a mandatory retirement. Even if the Dems passed the law in time (they can't), the VA Supreme Court would surely strike it down.

It's funny to see Dems get so upset about Republican gerrymandering. Dems, you've been doing this stuff for decades in New England and California, among other places, and turnabout is fair play. The only surprising part is that it took so long for the GOP to defect and play the same game. We all lose in this scenario, but Dems have no respect for the rules, so this is sadly the inevitable destination.

Why would they strike it down? The constitution makes clear that the Senate can set the retirement age.
Now I think there is a problem in the plan in using the retirement age to get current judges.
It says they are replaced in the next session after they attain the retirement age. Someone who is 70 cannot be said to have just now attained the retirement age of 54.

It’s not mysterious. The MAGAs are mentally ill.

YES. THIS IS WHAT TRUMP AND MAGA HAVE WROUGHT.

They ignore the Constitution. They ignore the judiciary.

What are we supposed to do - let them flush it all down the golden f-in toilet. NO!

Mississippi wants to redistrict, now that the Supreme Court has declared that racist districts are no longer legal. But it was tied up in an appeal relating to its earlier map. No more! A unanimous panel of the Fifth Circuit vacated the district court order and sent it back.

You could just educate yourself on the history of gerrymandering.

In your world, history starts when you want it to.
