There is a rule that laws have to be presented to the public for 30 days before passage.

Democrats took an existing bill and replaced it with this amendment, claiming that this provision is met by having the public see the number of the bill for 30 days.

The Ohio and Florida constitutions ban partisan gerrymandering. Republicans did it anyway. Tennessee law bans mid-cycle redistricting. Republicans did it anyway.

This is an absolutely ridiculous statement.

It would have been great if SCOVA had stopped the insanity before it started. Something so clearly illegal should’ve never gone so far.
But Jones & VA Dems argued to have the vote proceed, & for SCOVA to rule on the legality AFTER. They cited precedent and won.
THEY got the process THEY wanted.
Just not the outcome.
You cannot argue for the decision to be made AFTER the vote and then claim that if SCOVA determined it was unconstitutional that the vote must stand.

Tennessee repealed the law prohibiting mid-cycle redistricting. And they redistricted in response to the SCOTUS decision prohibiting districting based on race.

I don't think it can be argue this district was made based on race. It is very compact, unlike Louisiana.

Virginia voted 60% for an independent commission in 2019. Democrats overruled this in a manner that itself violated the Constitution.

Everyone who is OK iwth what happened in VA and isn't also criticizing the substance and manner in which deep south states (as well as MO, OH, TN) are gerrymandering mid-cycle is a F'ing hypocrite and hack.

They voted in a referendum, which took precedence. That's how things work.

Nope. At least Blue states like Virginia voted for their redistricting. TN and others did not, they just went ahead and did it.
