I hate to say I almost want it to happen just to see the inevitable fallout.

Many non-New Yorkers feel this way. Let NYC become the cesspool that is Detroit, Chicago, Portland, LA and SF. As a NYer, I don't want to pay the price.

Except the people paying zero tax and getting “freebies” mostly voted for Cuomo. Maybe for once step back and realize that maybe the upper middle class who overwhelmingly voted for Mamdani want a social safety net for everyone, want to protect the cab drivers and laborers who have built this city and want access to subsidized childcare and and hosting that this rich city is more than capable of providing.

But your lack of empathy and humanity can never make you appreciate this perspective and you would rather continue being a pawn in a billionaires game than wish for a brighter future for our future generation.

This entire post is untrue. Just because you say it doesn't make it true. The young white privileged voters who are supported at least in part by their parents won Mamdani the primary. It remains to be seen what will happen in the general election.

100% correct.
Correction to another poster:
Mamdani is demanding FREE childcare, not subsidized childcare, you freggin liar. Stop already. You’re boring.

You are clearly triggered. I haven't a clue who you're agreeing with.

The reality is that either Eric Adams wins the general election or the 1% will continue to flock to Florida and Texas, as will businesses, and the middle class who can't leave will bear the burden. Raising business taxes by 55% doesn't help if then the businesses leave. Same with the 1%.

Basically, a Catch 22 for NYC.

Or he will get into office and do only a fraction of what he campaigned on, like most politicians.

well duh. that's the problem with socialism. the demand for free stuff by the masses is infinite, but the ability of the 1% to pay for it is finite, not to mention their willingness to pay for it.

I think the biggest problem he can cause would be with policing and the police. The mayor has the ability to install the chief of police. NYC was cleaned up in part by bringing in very tough chiefs of police. After de Blasio, Adams ran as a former police officer who promised to clean up de Blasio's mess. It's already an uphill battle due to the huge influx of illegal immigrants that have overwhelmed the city's resources, combined with Zero Bail.

NYC is estimated to have a 4.5B deficit by 2027, and that is before any additional spending proposed by Mamdani.

I will add, that NY is constitutionally mandated to have a balanced budget. The way that gets done is by cutting services. It is clear that politicians like Mamdani don't understand, or I should say don't care about reality, and just say whatever will get votes from people who want to believe the rhetoric.

The government grocery stores will mean I won't have to shop next to the poor people on food stamps.

These looney and clueless Democrat candidates (Mamdani, AOC, Bernie, etc) are the best thing that ever happened to Republicans. Operation Let Them Talk is in full force. NYC voters…you will get what you voted for. All those new taxes will be passed right along to you in the cost of services and products. Economics 101

You’re assuming there will be food on the shelves to shop for. Study up on Soviet Union run “grocery stores”. Supermarket margins are tight already and now the NYC govt will mandate prices?!? Good luck with that. Food producers won’t sell in the NYC market at a loss.

If business taxes are raised by 55%, those businesses will pass those taxes right along to their customers in the form of much higher prices for their products and services and lower employee benefits. Businesses may sign the check but they don’t actually pay taxes, their customers do. Silly liberals. They just don’t understand economics.

Then NYC will have its own food production!

It’s actually quite infinite if you tax them property.

You are so close to understanding how the Trump tariffs work, but clueless about how actual taxes work. Don’t worry, though, if you keep sucking I’m sure that the rich people will tell you that you are pretty.
