Thanks! So nice that the option is offered for those who really love W&M. |

W&M
Kelly School of Business Which one? Interested in Business and ready to transfer out after first year to a better business school. |
JMU sounds like a good match for your really social kid, it will be the right level of challenge, if you are in-state it will be less expensive, and it has an outstanding music department. |
Definitely agree, St. Olaf. |
They are both quite good business schools. W&M as you probably know is not a direct admit, so first year would not be in the business school. |
How about job prospects and internships from these schools |
You've got similar level schools, but two are urban vs. one more isolated in its campus. I'd choose Duke, but if your kid wants NYC, Durham isn't that. |
PP here: As far as personality, it sounds like she would be really happy at W&M. My son is similar and when we attended an ED accepted students event last month, he discovered that so many of the kids he met were just like him. Bright, funny, kind, interesting, and social kids, with a good mix of extroverts and introverts. The theatre and chorus programs are big there, and they just opened a new arts center, dedicated to Alumnae Glenn Close. A really amazing young woman from my son’s high school, is a freshman at W&M. She was the lead in all the plays and musicals in HS, and a leader in the a cappella group, and she is incredibly talented. She chose W&M OOS, and from what I’ve heard (second-hand), she loves it. A friend’s son goes to W&M (also a freshman) and he was a big theater kid in HS and he is so happy there. |
Thank you. |
PP here: I just read that you are in DC and someone else wrote that JMU is overwhelmed and not doing that well with their student support dept. I don’t know anything about that, but I do have a son with ADHD and so I know how important it is to really look into this. If JMU is working to do better for these kinds of kids, it sounds like a good fit otherwise. |
More firms will likely recruit at IU Kelley because it is larger, but I believe W&M was ranked tops among public schools in Princeton Review for internships. WSJ had a ranking of graduate salaries by public universities in different fields. It wasn't specific to the business school, but probably overlaps significantly. In finance, W&M ranked 5 and IU 18. In management consulting, W&M ranked 9 and IU 13. In Marketing, W&M was 18. Both are beautiful campuses. |
Public policy is a particularly strong program at Michigan. Not sure I would recommend adding out of state costs, though. |
