A team wants to come out of their pool with the best record and then win their tier. Under this system you don’t get anything for winning your pool because it is about winning the tier. |
U16s and U19s used to just rank the pools based on performance in qualifiers, with some additional judgement by USAFH. Looks like now they are ranking 1-4 in each pool, then will distribute into tiers based on pool play (like Disney). All of these systems are messed up. The team that wins the bottom pool/tier, which is likely the 8th worse team of the 80+ teams earn a medal, photos on the podium, and the ability to say: NIT winner in their recruiting profiles, while the 3rd best team in the tournament, who doesn't win the top tier, walks away empty-handed. |
In theory, all the 1 seeds in the pools will win their pool and end up in the crossover with all the other 1 seeds in their tier. And then one of them will win. There will always be some 2/3/4 seeds that win their pool and advance to play the other 1 seeds. This system is actually reducing the chances of the 8th worst team to winning a medal. |
But I believe the bottom tiers are made up of the teams with the worst records. So some teams get to be the winners of the losers. |
Parents - some good advice. Don’t ever tell your DD’s teammates’ parents where your DD is possibly looking to play in college or name the college coaches your DD may have already talked to. Trust me - your parent/friend may act like your friend, but behind your back it’s possible they may be working against your DD and for their own DD’s benefit. Sorry but it happens….a lot more than you may think it would or should. Keep all info private and hope your club coaches are on your side otherwise kiss it goodbye! |
Say what now? |
This is sad to hear. But curious, what can another parent do? Reach out to the colleges? Or purposely post inappropriate things? |
This is more common than you think. Still reach out to college coaches and hopefully they will come and see your DD play at showcases. And if your DD performs well in front of desired coaches, then great! The parents on the sidelines will wonder who the colleges are there to watch. Don’t tell anyone it’s your DD! |
This is true in any sport really. It also leads to a lot of jealousy, "why does X school want her and not me?" when it could be as simple as the position they play and their roster needs. Everyone's recruiting needs are different - recruits and colleges alike. The more you keep things to yourself, the better. |
^^^ True. Recruitment is cutthroat so keep it close to the vest. The person you may trust the most could be the first to sabotage your DD for their own benefit. Sad but true. It happened to us and it was sad to watch it enfold in front of our eyes. |
What did the other people do to sabotage your DD? |
How can another parent sabotage your kid's recruitment? My kid just got recruited and I don't see how this would be possible. |
Good old fashioned backstabbing and gaslighting DD to club coaches. It’s difficult to figure out what’s going on until it’s too late and the damage is done. Not saying it happens all of the time but there are plenty of instances of this in the DMV. Bait and switch type scenarios with favored players after the connections and leg work have been started by DD with certain college coaches that the club coaches hadn’t previously been exposed to. |
So not necessarily attacking/speaking poorly of your DD, but more stealing her connections/benefiting from efforts. |
Club coaches should know better. The problem is the club coach, not necessarily the other players. |
