A girl was pulled into a bathroom and raped by two boys at Rockville HS today. One of the alleged perpetrators is "of no fixed address" and has a Latino name. They ran his pic, which surprised me as he is only 17.
Let's assume he is one of the unaccompanied minors who came to MoCo. Is this something ICE would follow and try to deport him? Or because MoCo is a sanctuary county, would MoCo refuse to cooperate with officials? How does this work? How will this affect Rockville's decision re becoming a sanctuary city? http://patch.com/maryland/bethesda-chevychase/s/g2br7/girl-raped-in-rockville-high-school-boys-bathroom-police?utm_source=alert-breakingnews&utm_medium=email&utm_term=police%20%26%20fire&utm_campaign=alert |
| I'm not sure, but I'll just put out there that this works both ways: if the victim is undocumented, the community benefits from the sanctuary city status because she will not be scared to testify and report crimes like this. |
|
MoCo and Rockville would have reported him when he was arrested. It's up to ICE to take it from there.
http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Beat/2017/Area-Residents-Divided-Over-Proposed-Rockville-Immigration-Ordinance/ "Rockville will continue to comply with federal immigration law by sharing with federal authorities the immigration status of individuals who are arrested, according to city officials." |
No fixed address often means homeless. Are you suggesting that any Latino who might be homeless should be investigated and deported? |
Stereotype much? |
| Sanctuary city means that they won't physically turn him over to ICE. That is to say, whatever the release/bail rules that would apply to a similarly situated citizen will apply to him. But he was still fingerprinted and entered into the criminal database that ICE has access to. |

Questions?
Is Rockville a sanctuary city? Last I heard the Rockville council hasn't voted on the issue. Is Rockville HS in the city limits? I live up county and since the Gazette died , I find it very hard to keep up with county news. |
The arresting office (Kim) is MCPD according to court records. It mentions the case was turned over the Special Victims. Rockville Police do NOT investigate rapes -- that is handled by MCPD. http://www.rockvillemd.gov/index.aspx?nid=254 |
I don't think MoCo would have reported. Rockville is an incorporated city - rules are different, which is why they are debating sanctuary status. |
Thanks for clarifying. |
Recent immigrant as per Bethesda Beat and flight risks. http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Beat/2017/Police-Charge-Two-Rockville-High-School-Students-With-Rape-of-Another-Student/ Obviously our tax dollars support these criminals. Maybe Obama should cut a check/donation to the tax payer funded public defenders. Fine young dreamers. |
The community benefits because she can testify and they all get to stay in the USA? Phhft. Those 2 rapists can go to Gitmo for all I care. |
| This thread is awful. It happened today? Does anyone think assumptions about this awful event will be constructive? So far this thread is incredibly ugly. |
Stereotype? Both are illegal and in the 9th grade at ages 17 and 18 at Rockville HS. Are such "students" placed at grade level in ESL with average age 14 year olds? Why not an alternative school program in a separate facility? I think CBS is a real news organization. http://www.wusa9.com/news/local/rockville/2-male-students-charged-with-raping-girl-inside-rockville-hs-bathroom-/423392490 |

Montgomery County is NOT a sanctuary county.
If someone is arrested and taken to the County jail (there is no Rockville city jail), their fingerprints are sent to the FBI, who gives them to ICE, and ICE can come get them if they have a detainer that includes probable cause. Montgomery County does not hold people in violation of Constitutional rights, but if ICE can get there quickly enough, they can take them. |
