Driving through Great Falls, my neck gets whip lashed every time I notice a new humungous ugly house. I think to myself 'What kind of assh*le would build a giant mess like that?'. Ostentatious, flagrant mixing of styles, over stated, over sized, poor design. Is this a dream house or just another nightmare on Geo'town Pike?
Some people have more money than good taste, but they can afford to hire an architect with vision. Why don't they leave design to a talented professional? |
| Pics or it didn't happen. |
| You know them... they look like a cross between a Barbie dream house, the White House and Cinderella's castle at Disney World. |
| Most people wouldn't attempt to design their own clothes, but they think they can design a house. Go figure. |
|
Actually people do care, they are just usually too polite to comment. |

Blogs are written about this.

+10000 OP, people are going to assume you can't afford a house so large, or so new, if this is your peeve. |
Most people are impressed by big, then they can over look the ugly. |
| If your impression is only formed by driving along a major road like Georgetown Pike (or River Road), you are going to come across more big, built-to-impress properties. Things look different on the quieter side streets. |
That's what I'm talkin' about! These houses are coming up like weeds. |
| Yes, they are ugly. But the McMansion blog chick needs to get a life and past the smug sanctimony. |
| I assume correctly that most are foreigners. Some of these houses are so heinous. And then there's ZERO landscaping whatsoever. I wish the city enforced some sort of landscaping code. So many don't have one single bush or tree, just grass all the way up to the house. |
Try around here (falls church) - illegal tenement mansions filled to the brim with foreigners, built all the way to the fence, and the yard completely paved to make parking. Some even have parking lines drawn. |
| I really don't understand the desire for huge homes. I get it if you have 4 kids, but what's the deal with 4500 sq ft for a four person family? It is SO much work and expense to clean, maintain, etc. |
