9 eggs retrieved this morning, age 37. Worried I won't have any normal blasts from 9 eggs?

Once you count attrition for how many fertilize and make it to blast and how many mature...

I always had 8 -10 eggs and had about 1-4 embryos make it to blast.... not all of them were normal though. I only got 3 normals out of 4 retrials I'm 40.

My AmH was around 2 and estrogen 2300 at trigger so I expected more... they saw like 12 plus follicles at least

I was 39 when I had 9 eggs retrieved. We transferred three on day 3 - too risky to wait if any would make it to blast. My twins are four years old. Good luck, OP.

thanks. Just got fert report only 5 fertilized. Super bummed.

Honestly, it only takes one. It may not feel like it when you're in the midst of cycling, but it's the truth. I think the most eggs I ever got (in 3 cycles) was 11, with 6 fertilized.

I have 2 IVF babies (both from a different cycle that retrieved 8 with 5 making it to blast).

What do you mean by too risky?

Eggs at this age aren't likely to be of great quality. I'm 41, btw. Isn't it better to grow out and test, than wait for a miscarriage because of a chromosomal defect?

I think that's actually pretty decent OP - don't beat yourself up.

Wishing you good luck!

Not PP, but the theory is that embryos do better in the womb. That's why sometimes REs recommend transferring on Day 3 instead of waiting. I think this is changing, but that certainly was the case a few years ago.

Op here: I just failed 3 FET in a row with leftovers from my last IVF, so I feel like I need more than 1 ya know?

Plus if 5 fertilized, that's likely what 2/3 blast, and of the 2/3 maybe 1 or 0 are PGS normal?

5 fertilized is great! My dd is from an "only 5 fertilized" cycle. My PGS twins are from an "only 5 fertilized and 2 made it to blast at day 6" cycle.

Have a little hope and best of luck!

PP here. Yes, that was why. My RE said with so few embryos (I had four out of the nine eggs), they wouldn't wait for blasts, as the embryos would be more likely to make it in the uterus. I was also ok with transferring three because I was kind of hoping for twins, knowing I was too old to do this twice (of course RE thought that would be unlikely given my age). It all worked out perfectly in the end, but I realize there are risks so maybe the thinking has changed.

The ASRM recommendation on number of day 3 embryos to transfer is still 2-3. Aside from embryos doing better in the womb, I suspect doctors think that patients will be less unhappy if it fails if they actually had a transfer. My clinic only goes to day 5 if there are a lot looking good at day 3
