What do you mean by too risky?

Eggs at this age aren't likely to be of great quality. I'm 41, btw. Isn't it better to grow out and test, than wait for a miscarriage because of a chromosomal defect?[/quote]
Not PP, but the theory is that embryos do better in the womb.  That's why sometimes REs recommend transferring on Day 3 instead of waiting.  I think this is changing, but that certainly was the case a few years ago.[/quote]

PP here. Yes, that was why. My RE said with so few embryos (I had four out of the nine eggs), they wouldn't wait for blasts, as the embryos would be more likely to make it in the uterus. I was also ok with transferring three because I was kind of hoping for twins, knowing I was too old to do this twice (of course RE thought that would be unlikely given my age). It all worked out perfectly in the end, but I realize there are risks so maybe the thinking has changed.[/quote]

The ASRM recommendation on number of day 3 embryos to transfer is still 2-3. Aside from embryos doing better in the womb, I suspect doctors think that patients will be less unhappy if it fails if they actually had a transfer. My clinic only goes to day 5 if there are a lot looking good at day 3[/quote]
