My good friend just got a new Audi Q7

Its my dream car. Its gorgeous and I'm totally jealous. I don't think we could ever afford something like that. I don't begrudge my friend. She is a really sweet person. But gosh, some people have all the luck. She stays home. Her husband makes bank.

Just venting anonymously about my little green monster. Can't say anything about it to my husband because he interprets comments like that as "complaining."

Okay. Vent over.

eh. nice car, expensive so it comes with it's own set of headaches. Expensive to upkeep, taxes, registration....no thanks.

Be careful in assuming she's so "lucky" though. I would never want to stay home. My DH makes "bank", by our definition at least. I don't need to work - the kids are in school all day and no way would I want to stay home. I went to school for a reason, and I like using my brain and feeling vital and like I'm contributing financially to the future of our family....but that's me.

One thing I know for sure, no one's life is perfect - NO ONE! Some of the most outwardly perfect looking families have some really ugly secrets. Bad marriages, spousal abuse, gambling, husband spends little time at home due to working 80+ hours a week, affairs, unhappy anxious kids etc.

And then the pressure of trying to keep up with the Jones, and save face?! No thanks. I like my simple, quiet and happy life with our two used cars.

Really?! I just looked it up in Google Images - it looks like it couldn't decide if it wanted to be an SUV or a station wagon.

I like it too but couldn't justify the cost.

Just get a used one. Way better value, and if there have been no significant changes between year to year that's a bonus.

OP here. No way. Husband is a really good man but is basically a reverse snob who eschews labels or status symbols of any kind. He says the only status symbol he wants is early retirement. Lol.

guess not OP, since they now own a Q7. Even if it's his wife's car - they are a couple and that would seem to go against his eschewing of labels and reverse snobbery. that's just a front OP.

Wow. So sad how some people are this shallow.

Are you jealous of not having the car or are you jealous that she doesn't work and still get to have this car, which happens to be your favorite car.

If you really want it, work for it, then you get a sense of appreciation because you work hard for it. Forget how others get their stuff. That's how I see it.

Probably more this. She's just one of those who seems to have it all. And lives at the club in her tennis whites.

We could technically afford to buy this car, but my husband is not shallow like me.
