I think they're hideous. Sales guy tried to put me in one, it drove like crap. I'll take my G wagon anyday, thanks. |
Agree, same in the D.C. suburbs. It's an Audi SUV, not a sports car or something cool. |

I just bought a used car OP. Someone up thread is convinced that that happens because you're poor. Whatever.
I'm not poor by any stretch. Anywho, while I was out shopping for another car, a sales rep at Mercedes told me that almost 85% of luxury new car sales are leases. I'm sure you're neighbor is doing just fine but make no mistake... a LOT of folks are riding around on leases and not buying those fancy >$60k cars. |

I have a q7. It drives like a minivan. I am a stay at home mom. We did buy it used however. The pp that said that poor people buy used is funny. Sounds like a hater to me. I have no problem buying houses and cars and even other gently used things so long as it bring me happiness. The fact that someone used them before me is irrelevant if they were cared for. I personally would never buy a new car as they depreciate by quite a bit the minute they are driven off the lot. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Op, I'm with the poster who says buy used if you don't want to spend the money for a new one. Also go test drive it. I personally love the look of the q7. But the drive is smooth. I think my next car will be a Jeep or Landrover. |
True. Where I work the security guards and police officers, who make a lot less than a lot of the workforce drive the nicest cars. A lot of senior managers drive old Accords and Camrys. It's all about priorities. I won't begrudge anybody for driving a fancy car, it's just not my cup of tea. Plus, I pretty much treat my cars like crap. Sure I keep up on the maintenance, but keeping my car tidy and obsessing over its shine isn't for me. Buddy of mine when he was younger bought a used Audi. Cool car, super fast, but he sure hated that thing as it aged and the maintenance costs started piling up. Audis are great cars, but everything you get done on them is almost twice as expensive as your normal Ford, Chevy, Honda, or Toyota. |
I'd take the new Pilot over the Q7. I'm not joking. My Hondas last forever. Kids have my old one--11 years+--zero issues. |
Whenever I have car envy, one of my kids throws up in the back seat of my car to remind me that I would actually feel way worse about that in an expensive car....

Ok. I still don't get your point. You live near people who spend lots of money? I live in Chantilly so it's not "dime a dozen" here. And we've had this discussion on here before. Just because something is common here doesn't make it normal or middle class. See all the threads on $400k income people just squeaking by. |
Early retirement is the best status symbol of them all! |
