School without walls test results

Has anyone heard?

No. Interviews are on 3/4. Based on the notice for test, I suspect we won't hear till next week! Also with 850 kids taking the test, it may be a harder decision for them if they only accept 150!

Those numbers actually bode well for other high schools. If 40% of 8th graders were invited to take the test and only 6% of 8th graders will be admitted, that suggests a bright 9th grade class across DC, right?

Or a lot of work for moving companies / high yield for private schools.

No really. All you had to do to take the test was apply and show a b- average.

B average in each class last year, not B-average

still, one would expect that to be at least the top 50% of 8th graders.

I just realized, interviews are on the 4th, the day after private school inform applicants of their acceptances.

I am sure this is not a case. I believe the school wants to screen out students who have private school options.

Students are interviewed separately from parents, and I am sure the SWW crew will pay tricks to have them disclose if they applied and the outcomes of applications.

I think I will not let my son know of the outcome of our three applications in private schools.

Doubtful. They are not that organized. And you won't know if you get into SWW until after deposits for private schools are due anyway.

You child is going to be a freshman in high school and you don't trust him with this information? And to communicate it appropriately?

SWW will want to hear that SWW is your child's first choice and why. If it isn't he should be honest and explain why.

Question: Does SWWS also require to be listed at first in lottery choices, to be matched? My son also applied to Ellington and I just found out that if they are not listed as his first choice, then he will not be matched if he is accepted. I have not had to use the lottery system for 3 years and this is the first for high school.

Yes, that's how it was explained a year ago. I would call MSDC and ask to be sure.

If you were accepted/matched to the school you listed first, you won't also be offered a match at other schools. In other words, you can only be matched with one place.

But if you applied and ranked 1) SWW 2) Ellington and didn't get into SWW and were eligible for an offer at Ellington, you should still be able to match with Ellington.

YES. Our child had the same problem. If you rank Ellington before SWW AND he gets into Ellington, he will be dropped to the very bottom of the SWW list even if he would have otherwise been admitted, i.e., he will never get in. Same thing if he ranks Walls before Ellington. Unfortunately, prospective students can't shadow at SWW until they are admitted, so your son will have to rank his choices without having had that experience.
