Same with DCI for feeder school kids. You must rank DCI first if you want to use your feeder pattern rights. No way to try for another school and keep DCI in your back pocket. |
| Thanks so much for the responses...I feel like I am playing a poker game right now. It does not help that interview dates, and schedules are not the same across the board for each school. |
The system is not meant to make it easy to apply to multiple DCPS application schools. Just like the charters and OOB lottery people used to hold multiple acceptances so they moved it to the lottery platform. I think each school would prefer that you only apply to one, but obviously they can't stop you. March 31 is just around the corner though. Good luck. |
Doesn't this just mean that you should rank in order of true preference? Same with feeder path and sibling preference? You have to rank your #1 as your number 1. |
Yep. I think the challenge is that by high school sometimes the parents and the kids preferences don't align. Easier with the little ones who don't get to have an opinion. |
My son would rather go to the private schools we applied to if admitted with the financial assistance we applied to. I cannot blame him since his only first-hand contact with SWW was at the boring and uninspiring open house of January. I am sure he will be honest (not yet able to be untruthful) , but what he will say will not please the panel. That's not a great starting point for a motivational interview. Hopefully his grades and test results will compensate. I am indeed concerned, in general, and given the timing of the private schools admission news. |
Good luck. FWIW a shadow day at SWW is unlikely to have changed his mind either. |
It's a numbers game -- if there really are 875 applicants, your kid has about a 1 in 5 chance of getting in on round 1. About the same as the privates, maybe a little better. Unfortunately the process is just as opaque. |
| Just heard that DS did not score high enough on the test to proceed to the interview. Bummed. |
Sorry. What's your plan B? |
He was accepted to a catholic private. |
How did they notify? Calll' email' or mail? We still haven't heard.

<<Just heard that DS did not score high enough on the test to proceed to the interview. Bummed.
Sorry. What's your plan B? He was accepted to a catholic private.>> This is EXACTLY our situation. Bummed as well as i thought SWW would have been a good opportunity... |
Sometimes things work out for a reason? Congrats to your kids for getting into the private and good luck. I'm guessing they will love it. |
They sent an email. |
