Question: Does SWWS also require to be listed at first in lottery choices, to be matched? My son also applied to Ellington and I just found out that if they are not listed as his first choice, then he will not be matched if he is accepted. I have not had to use the lottery system for 3 years and this is the first for high school.
YES. Our child had the same problem. If you rank Ellington before SWW AND he gets into Ellington, he will be dropped to the very bottom of the SWW list even if he would have otherwise been admitted, i.e., he will never get in. Same thing if he ranks Walls before Ellington. Unfortunately, prospective students can't shadow at SWW until they are admitted, so your son will have to rank his choices without having had that experience.
