Gangs recruiting in ES

Anonymous
Its a very vague article.
It doesnt clarify if they actually recruit in the schools ( which i doubt) or in their neighborhoods and some of the kids happen to be in 5th grade.
Its terrible that it starts so young but it doesnt mean its happening in any specific schools here.

OP here. Agree. Thus I'm reaching out to find out more. Not inconcievable that HS and MS gangbangers have siblings in ES. This is not good...

More accurate thread title: In Maryland and Virginia, there are teenagers in gangs.

It's not good that middle-school-aged and high-school-aged kids involved in gangs have younger siblings who go to elementary school?

Well, yes, it's not good for children to have older siblings who are in gangs. I thought that went without saying.

Feeds into Churchill. They have a gang there, too.

I'm pretty surprised by the flippant responses in this thread. WTF? Do you PPs just not care about the ES environment in MCPS? Or is it because your kids go to schools where gangs are not an issue, therefore you don't give a f$ck?

I care about a good elementary (and middle, and high) school education for all children in Montgomery County, including the ones whose parents are poor immigrants. I don't particularly care about OMG gangs in ES.

FWIW, my child next year is going to a middle school that some affluent parents avoid because OMG gangs.

Your post makes no sense to me. Whose kids do you think are targeted when gang activity increases in the county? Often it's kids whose parents are poor immigrants. And yet, you say you don't care about gangs in ES because it doesn't affect you??

It is possible that the OP's post about gangs in elementary school came from a place of general concern about the challenges facing all of the children in MCPS, including the ones not in the DCUM demographic. I hope so. Or it is possible that the condensed version of OP's post is, "Panic! My kid in elementary school might be going to school with gang members !1!1!!!!1"

Why would you assume any different? There ARE gangs in MS/HS already and it makes sense that kids in ES face similar challenges. Of course there is a concern about it if your kid is in MCPS.

And, as for the bolded part - isn't that a valid concern? Again, not sure what your point is here.
