CCL looks like they're going to be picking off the NPL teams. A smart move for them. I think this move NVSC also works as it gives their second teams a league to be in as well.

It would help if they picked off good NPL clubs.

Maybe it's a start. Not the best and not the worst.

So far, very similar to NoCAL where there seems to be unwillingness to leave ECNL for a crapshoot DA, similar to WS mess here
However, 3 SoCal clubs doing both ECNL and DA (Surf, SoCal Blues and West Coast FC).
For the Southern California dual-program clubs (only ones in US), seems DA will be "A" team and ECNL will be delivered facto "B".
DA only needs to win SoCAL and the rush to WS will leave Mclean and BRYC in the dust.
Maybe 2-3 years?

As I said a million times before on this thread..WS will be a sucessful DA program. Those who keep bad mouthing them have limited vision and understanding on how all of this will play out. Everyone bashed them on the Reston location. It's actually a great location. Look at a map and figure out what clubs surrounds them....and BTW...WS MD will be great from the jump.

NVSC does have some good teams we have played over the years in tournaments. It says they will play in CCL and CCL2, where do there teams play right now though? What leagues are they leaving for CCL ?

1st team plays in NPL, 2nd in NCSL, this is the case for most of the teams.

Tryouts with very little feedback from coaches, coaches who think they are god because they have every parent at their beckon call, and clubs that know every parent will pay $2-3K per year in travel soccer fees. Not to mention, clubs make "slight" changes to jerseys so they can charge full price for the next season again.

Realizing that even the most "Elite" players from Bethesda or DC United Academy are now playing college soccer for Radford or Marshall, the juice isn't worth the squeeze! Unless you have political connections, forget climbing the "soccer ladder." At most, there are 9 scholarships handed out per team and these are divided up among 20-25 players.

My advice is don't sweat soccer- just enjoy watching your kids play and get good grades.

+10000

I have maintained this position all along--even though I played at a top academic University.

Soccer is not where my kids will make their $ in life. Once you keep that perspective --the expensive race to nowhere and the parents trying to manipulate look really silly.

If the choice is Radford or Marshall for soccer or UVA or Duke without soccer-- I know where they'll be going...(hint they can play club/intramural if they still need their fix).

Real Colorado also now dual GDA/ECNL club where "A" teams move to DA, "B" teams up to ECNL. Same setup at Real for boys side now too.

Colorado Rush (i.e., Rush organization's "mothership") dropping ECNL in favor of GDA and amid massive coach turnover in Denver.

No, he isn't pretty much right. Spirit will become a very attractive option. The pro club affiliation alone offers opportunities that the other clubs can't match.

Give it time.

Who cares about Spirit having a "pro" team? As I read somewhere else recently, the head janitor at each of the women team's stadiums makes more money that almost all of the pro women players. Playing pro soccer is just not a smart career option. Instead, the ultimate goal of girls youth soccer is to get some money from the 13 total scholarships each D1 women's team can offer. Spirit is in no better position than FCV or VDA to accomplish that, and arguably in a worse position since they never helped placed a HS player before.

GDA may end up being the best place to be, but it's far from certain how long it will take to get there, and of the 3 GDA clubs in NoVa, it's not clear that Spirit will be at the top of the heap now or in the near future.

And for those on here who keep talking about how Spirit is attracting players from all over, I took my kid to a tryout and the quality was not that impressive. A very few top players but most of them were not exactly elite.

Then I'm sure your kid is quite happy on her DA team.

If all those not so elite kids were selected do you think they would still be having tryouts?

Say what you want about the players you saw at a DA tryout, though I generally don't trust parents to offer such comparisons.

But when it comes to ridiculing the Spirit pro players, I'd invite you to kindly shut up. Right now. No, they're not getting rich, but their dedication and professionalism are outstanding.

And to my knowledge, there's no "head janitor" at the SoccerPlex. There's a head groundskeeper who does an awesome job and has an adorable dog who runs off birds.

The original poster is not dialed in enough to understand the concept of open ended tryouts. Let me try...NOT EVERYONE WHO GOES TO A TRYOUT GETS AND OFFER. THOSE WHO HAVE GOTTEN OFFERS DON'T GO TO THE LATER TRYOUTS. THEREFORE YOU WILL NOT GET TO SEE THE OVERALL LEVEL OF TALENT LIKE YOU WOULD AT A TRADITIONAL CLUB TRYOUT WITH A ESTABLISHED PLAYER POOL. Hope that helps
