Your kids must be early on in their school career. No parent of a high schooler or 8th grader wants their kid moved in the middle of high school. Kids don’t do as well academically their first year after a move.

“ Prior work indicates that children do worse in the year of a school move, but has been largely unsuccessful in isolating the causal effects of mobility. ”

There is enough data about this that the school board should know. This is from MIT, not the UAE like their students are.

They have said that they expect most of the changes will be to ES.

FCPS’s own projections show only Woodson and WSHS significantly over capacity in the 5 year projections (which obviously are sus but that’s what they’re going by). Isn’t Mantua ES basically right across the street from Woodson HS though? I can’t see that change happening.

You could be within four blocks of Oakton HS and zoned for Madison HS.

But isn't that bc all of the City of Vienna needs to be zoned for Madison HS? Just like all of the City of Fairfax is zoned for Fairfax HS? So much like Langley is next door to McLean, Oakton is next door to Madison.

No, there is no requirement for the Town of Vienna to be zoned to Madison HS. Years ago part of the TOV used to go to Oakton, and currently kids in the TOV attend two different middle schools (Thoreau and Kilmer).

There is a requirement for the City of Fairfax to be zoned to Fairfax City schools (Daniels Run or Providence ES, Johnson MS, and Fairfax HS).

Oakton and Madison are even closer to each other than Langley is to McLean.

That's hardly a surprise because there are a lot more ES than there are MS and HS and there are also more ES attendance islands.

Waples PTA won’t win that battle.

Can someone summarize is it Wakefield Forest ES from woodson to Annandale, Forrestville from Langley to Herndon? Anything else?

Amen to that. What was the reaction of the SB to this?

There are no cities within counties in VA - you’re in either a city OR a county. Fairfax City may be confusing because they contracted FCPS to run their schools but they’re an independent political entity. Vienna, Herndon & Clifton are incorporated towns, which have some services of their own but are part of the county. Anywhere else is an unincorporated area of Fairfax County.

And get rid of AAP centers, which only confuse boundaries even more - and are unnecessary.

Kudos to the PTA. It is great to have some coordinated effort

Not when they should be focused on getting rid of their horrible principal.

Anonymous wrote:The crowding at Woodson happened because in 2011, part of Annandale (Wakefield Forest) got moved there. Then, shortly thereafter, Fairfax City demanded that FCPS pull some county kids out of Fairfax HS. The obvious location at the time was to send them to Woodson, but they really hadn't expected Fairfax City to do this when the kids were moved from Annandale. Eventually it overcrowded Woodson.

Then it makes even less sense that the "leaked maps" poster proposed moving county kids from Waples Mill into the Fairfax HS pyramid.

The leaked map is like swap WMES kids with Greenbair east kids

This FCPS page says Bryant Alternative and Justice, but some have suggested in the past that the page is out of date.
