George Huguely's mother...

Here is a link to the interview with Huguely's mother that aired this morning on the Today Show. Audacity does not even begin to describe her behavior. Why doesn't she have the grace and wisdom to just shut up!

I think she's just speaking out to get a more sympathetic view out there of George because of the civil suit. I can't really blame her for that, I guess. She seemed to be trying to be as respectful of the Love family as she could under the circumstances. I don't know. Maybe I'm off base.

It was hard to hear her talk about her pain about her son when her son is the reason another family no longer has a daughter, sister, etc.

If you recall, George kicked in her door, bashed her head against the wall, left her unconscious and bleeding, stole her computer on the way out (bc he'd sent her death threats before). And here is his mother claiming it was an "accidental death" when they fell off the bed. Bull shit lady, your son murdered that girl.

Yes, this. Her son had a known drinking problem and violent tendencies. I don't know what she, her mother, knew about it. But unfortunately lady, your son had a serious alcohol problem and anger issues and clearly felt entitled to behave however he felt like behaving and killed his girlfriend as a result of a long series of choices he made.

I thought about this case a lot when it happened and I even thought about his mother. Because if I was her, I would be saying to myself...how did I ever raise a man that would do this. What could I have done differently.

Never good when you are arguing about the kind of killer you raised - involuntary or planned.

Yes, this. I totally thought that as I watched her. What could I have done so that HE might have made different choices?

That's not to say that what happened is her fault. I'm sure she has plenty of her own guilt and shame. I know, I would.

I agree that she seemed to be trying to be as respectful to the Love family as she could be, but what was the point of her doing a national interview? To rehab her image as another grieving mom? I find it hard to believe it will have any impact on the civil case and, if I were her attorney, I would have advised against it in the strongest terms. She provide that testimony in the trial in a much better way that could not be spun as opportunistic and attention-seeking.

Hum, let me see...She is the mother of a young man who violently murdered his gf and showed zero remorse. That apple did not fall far...

He's her baby. In her mind he will never be a killer.

This is what is interesting to consider. I have a son. I have thought about how I would react. I honestly believe that a non-delusional human would fully acknowledge who her son is and what he did, while still maintaining that she loves him.

This didn't happen last week. This woman has had years to sort through this.

As an example of a non-delusional human, look at the mother of the Columbine kid and how she handled things.

Exactly. She's his mom. She cannot see him as such a brutal killer because of how much she loves him. I don't think she should have spoken out. There was nothing for her to gain. But I do have some compassion for her as a mother.

Well, she's acknowledged that he did it. But she just can't see it as anything other than totally accidental. She can't admit that to herself. She's grasping at any straw, to keep what she thought she knew of her child still alive. I don't think any of us can say what we would do, unless we were actually in her shoes.

I agree very much with the bolded and I have empathy for her. However, I'm guessing this kind of excuse making and enabling is part of what led him to the place he's in today. He will be a relatively young man when he gets out of prison. I certainly hope he doesn't walk around believing it was totally accidental and that it was all just a big misunderstanding and an oopsie.

These are the choices you made. This is what happened. Own it and figure out what's next.
