Federal CP cases move very slowly it's not something special for the Duggars.

Jim Bob was never in the US Congress. He was a member of the Arkansas legislature.

Jim Bob hasn’t been in Congress since 2002 but still maintains connections he made then. That is how Josh was able to get the lobbying job he had. Josh also helped with Huckabee’s recent political campaigns. Anna Duggar was posting pics of her kids “reading” Rush Limbaugh’s most recent children’s book on her Instagram, tell me that THAT was just a coincidence... 🙄 it was a product placement of sorts. The Duggar’s are a business that promotes the right wing agenda. Why would Trump and company want to deal with backlash from that?

The scare tactics have got to be $$. The Duggars were basically in poverty before their show took off. They didn’t have real health insurance. They lived in a 3/1 ranch house. Only second hand clothes and only Aldi shopping. They had some income coming in but were very stretched having 14 kids. I’m sure the older kids can remember what it was like, and now they’re adults with family of their own. I assume JB controls all the purse strings from TLC money from their early specials, and if the kids stray too far, they don’t get their money anymore. Not so much of an issue for Jill and Derek as they have a normal sized family and D has an actual college education from a real, actual, PUBLIC(!) college. So he has income options. Some of the other ones, eh not so much. They’re stuck in the family business of, like, being low rent landlords and selling sketchy used cars. And trying to rake in a bit of money on social media.

It also seems like when the eldest kids were little, they suffered from food insecurity. So it wasn't just a big family living in a small house full of bunk beds, they had too many mouths to feed and not enough tator tots.

I think so too, definitely. Their diet was a regular subject of discussion when the first special aired. They would load up on canned and frozen foods at Aldi but very few if any fresh fruits and vegetables. And other fundamentalist families are known via their own blogs to have very “light” meals, because it’s hard to feed a family of 2 adults and at least 4 kids (and usually more) on the shoestring incomes they bring in. I’m not too sure if they’re forbidden or discouraged from getting government assistance - I mean they all vote against it and are anti-government in general, but I don’t know if that’s really an ideological belief or if it’s more in the sense of “it’s ok for me and people like me, but not for those other people.”

I don't know for sure, but likely this. We do know that a brief stint in the Arkansas legislature got the whole family Healthcare (for how long I don't know, but I believe I read years ago for many, many years) that allowed them to have the basics for so many kids over the years.

They're grifters at heart, so I wouldn't put much past them. And now with fame doubly so as we can see from all the shady business dealings.

As for Anna and the rest, yes they have been raised in a cult, but I also think at this point- 10 to 15 years later- they're way more exposed and savvy than those early days when the oldest kids were being raised.

She and her husband Derek are very critical of them. She's basically free from them. She openly talks about how she uses birth control and doesn't want to have a ton of kids.

I'm very happy for her. It also sounds like she got some good therapy once free from them to help heal her traumas from Josh & her family.

I just read an article about Josh claiming it was a "shady ex-convict" at the shop who downloaded the CP, not Josh. That's why Josh was smirking in his mug shot. He believes he will not face jail time because he is "innocent" of the charges.

Josh needs to do a little more research into how the feds conduct these cases and how they track things prior to bringing charges. There is a reason it took 2 years. They were finding the nails for Josh's judicial coffin.

I haven't seen that article, but my first thought upon reading this is that they hired this "shady ex-convict" for this exact reason. I put nothing past this family. They are pure evil. But obviously that's just my opinion/reaction to seeing this "defense."

Not true. She and Derick weren't receiving money much money from the show to begin with, when they were on good terms. It's one of the things that precipitated their fallout - patriarch Jimbo controls everything.

Also, Jill drinks alcohol from time to time. And wears shorts. Long shorts, but still... above the knee pant like clothing. Her independence is not just for financial reasons.
