I honestly don't think you understand the irony of this statement

Birtherism was pushed by Trump

He did better than HRC. And in the decades prior, the Democrats used to pretty good at winning those voters, which was good because it translated into meaningful congressional majorities. Now the Democrats win high income areas by a wide margin, but falter elsewhere: not a good national strategy.

So how did they win 235 House seats last month with such a poor national strategy?

Obama 2008/2012 vs. HRC 2016 isn't really apples-to-apples due to the vast difference in opposition. If Obama faced Trump in 2008/2012, or if HRC faced McCain or Romney in 2016, what do you think happens in PA?

When did the opposition party not pick up a few seats in the midterms? Stop congratulating yourselves, professional Democrats, start thinking about how to be more effective!

I think you're the one who misses the irony: after the Democrats elected a black man with a Muslim name, conservative apoplexy fixated on a wild Rube Goldberg that projected foreignness on Obama. After an orange-haired game show host humiliated the Democrats putative Queen, someone who had been projected for nearly a quarter century to be a shoe-in as President, MSM sources and professional Democrats insisted on their own Rube Goldberg about "Russia ate my homework". In both cases, birtherism and "Russia ate my homework", perpetual war and economic dislocation as the source of electoral tremors were wholly ignored if favor of wild, multiple step conspiracies.

I'm no Trump supporter and I'm also no idiot. My lack of idiocy is why I push back on your Russia nonsense.

The opposition party has picked up 40+ House seats in the midterms only three times in the last 40 years. Stop acting like it's a regular thing anymore.

The only people acting are the professional Democrats who won't stop their circle-jerking long enough to get that at best this is a small step. Given how widespread the whole Democratic Party was defeated in 2016, this isn't the time to get self-congratulatory.

Now? You mean in January of 2017 when they released a super-vague and sloppy report? Yes, they certainly were. Remember when the intelligence community said they were WMDs in Iraq? Then they were with the GOP.

Even Bob Woodward, a nice MSM journo if there ever was one, says he sees no evidence. The "Russia ate my homework" story is a red herring so pissed off Democratic voters don't get that their leaders let them down.

Also, remember when someone asked Jeff about Russians and Russian bots posting and said there were many more posts complaining about Russians than anything like a swell of Russian posters. Good times!

Who in the last two pages of this thread has been self-congratulatory about the 2018 House midterms?

No thanks!

Oh good Russian talking points right here on DCUM. Why I can't believe my eyes.

David sirota is Russian?

Bernie surrogates are just as poisonous to Democrats as Russians are.

Also https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/02/17/indictment-russians-also-tried-help-bernie-sanders-jill-stein-presidential-campaigns/348051002/

I think it's worth considering that Bernie is also in some trouble. Also also the Russian talking points aren't 100% fiction - but they are meant to sow divide. Like what Bernie did.

Bernie didn't divide, he told the truths Clinton refused to tell. In a democracy, what people think matters. Bernie represented the dispossessed well, including young people and people outside the high-income bubble. If defeating Trump was so important, the Democrats would have been wise to have listened to Bernie and his constituency.

And besides, Bernie barely touched Hillary, which is kind of too bad because she had so much baggage.

The meeting was the first sign of Obama getting personally involved in conversations with O’Rourke, who, despite his November loss in a U.S. Senate race in Texas, has triggered more recent discussion and speculation than any other candidate in the burgeoning 2020 field.”

I don't believe Dems can be as stupid as nominating a white dude as Obama 2.0.

But, yes, let's wait and see.

Hmmm.

Yeah, that's a tough one.

That WP article is ridiculous. It seems to suggest that somehow Obama has taken a personal interest in Beto's potential candidacy specifically, when the complete opposite is true -- my understanding is that he's taking the time to meet in DC with any Democrat seriously looking to run in 2020 and wants guidance on the process, and has done so with nearly a dozen folks already in the past year.
