Nope, it's all about the "principle" and Kody's place in the kingdom of heaven. At least, it used to be. I think once they all broke from the church, they realized that it was a big sham and there was no reason to keep up the charade. I mean, none of them act religious in any way. Yet in old pictures, they are wearing the long dresses so they must have been pretty strong believers at one point. Now they just believe in making money from TLC. |
Yes, it has. Christine had a big fight with Meri about how harsh she was with the kids. The kids have also mentioned it. |
Harsh or abusive? Those are very different things. |
She has been abusive to Janelle, Christine and their kids. She is a mean and jealous person. https://starcasm.net/sister-wives-history-christine-had-a-huge-fight-with-meri-over-how-meri-treated-her-kids-before-she-got-pregnant-with-truely/ |
Maddie Brown called her “a monster” https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/sister-wives-did-maddie-brown-brush-call-meri-brown-abusive.html/ |
The article doesn’t describe abuse. And it’s written by someone that doesn’t know the difference between roll and role. |
Meri treated Janelle badly when she married Kody. https://allaboutthetea.com/2015/10/25/sister-wives-inside-the-tears-pain-fights-between-meri-and-janelle-brown/ |
Merriam-Webster definition: “abusive adjective abu·sive ə-ˈbyü-siv also -ziv 1 a : using harsh, insulting language an angry and abusive crowd b : harsh and insulting abusive language c : using or involving physical violence or emotional cruelty abusive behavior an abusive husband an abusive relationship” |
I think Meri is an imperfect victim of a culture that does not treat women well. She grew up believing that her worth was tied up in her being a wife and a mother. And then she struggled greatly with both roles. Not only did she struggle with infertility, she had to do it while her husband had babies with his other wives. On here we regularly here women struggling with infertility feeling agony hearing friends announce their pregnancies, Meri had to hear her literal competition do it after being told that childbearing was essentially her primary role in life her whole life. He started marrying other women after years of her struggling to get pregnant. She was absolutely by all accounts mean verging on abusive to the other wives and children. But IMO she was more like a caged wounded animal lashing out than a cruel person. Clearly somewhere in the aftermath of catfish-gate Meri got serious about finding her own path. And she has kind of transformed as a person. In my opinion at least. She seems genuinely happy in the last 3-4 years in a way she never really did before. Kody failed all of them, mormonism failed all of them, polygamy failed all of them. It is hard to look back and judge these women in a terrible situation for being imperfect people. They couldn't see out of their own predicament. The show has been the best thing for them, it has brought them into the world outside of their church, and shown them that there are other paths. |
Let me re-phrase. Are we talking about definition a, b or c? Not that any are ok, but I think you knew what I was trying to get at. |
I agree with this. I think Meri and Christine have both grown in a good way. They are the two I would most want to hang out with. I used to like Janelle but now I think she's just so out to lunch with the trailer and sticking around to watch Kody be an idiot. And Robyn...while I'm sure she is probably the nicest of them all, she is so needy. |
Not sexual abuse, obviously. |
Janelle is stuck in a fat girl mindset. Even though she has lost weight it's really hard to shed that mindset. It makes you feel less than and feel like you deserve less and once you do that for many years it's hard to let go. She will eventually move on but it will take her longer. |
Apparently Janelle HAS moved on. Her daughter Gwendolyn said during a Q&A on her Patreon. |
I think it is telling that Janelle is the only sister wife Christine wants a relationship with. Meri seemed to revert to her sarcastic, angry self in the last few episodes. |
