So many things wrong

1. Talking points right out of the democratic party playbook
2. School shootings are extremely rare
3. People deal with personal issues all the time
4. Pay scales are widely known
5. Going on strike hurts students
6. Parents are in charge of a childs development and molding not teachers

I could go on but I have better stuff to do with my time

Ty for confirming her writing. I almost posted the same article, but I’m currently in a happy place at my school. Posters like you are so gross. She tells a story of a time when she was on lockdown for hours for a potential shooting and you still just laugh it off
Democratic Party talking points? This is a woman’s personal experience. I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with people to be this cold hearted

Apparently the PP thinks rare school shootings are acceptable.

Yup and bring on lockdown while one your students get arrested it's NBD. Talk about being heartless.

Why are teachers so dumb, failure to grasp basic statistics and understand risk....

Not sure why but certainly there was much of that involved in the dumbest decision of all dumb decisions: to close schools for nearly two years.

Public school teacher here who is most decidedly NOT dumb. I agree that closing schools for so long was a terrible idea and I taught in person as soon as it was allowed. Do not EVER make a general statement that teachers are dumb. It is factually false and indicates that you are the party who lacks critical thinking skills and emotional maturity. If you were my student I would call you out on your assertion and tell you to back it up with facts.

It's people like the above poster that are largely why many flee teaching.

Schools were not closed for one year, let alone two.

Guess you need to work on your math.

Lockdowns are fairly common. Basically anytime there is a nearby crime.

Sounds like you don’t grasp what is really happening in schools these days.

Schools were closed for a year (or more) in some places. Do you actually not know this?

Just barely one year. Certainly not TWO.

The first thing we talked about on PD day was all of the safety drills we needed to run during the year. Fire drills, lockdown drills, evacuation drills, earthquake drill, some others I’m forgetting. While I understand the statistically probability of a school shooting, it’s hard to put it out of your mind when you are consistently told that your door won’t lock this year and you need a plan of how your students will fight a shooter if it comes to that.

Also lockdowns happen often at schools.

Even my 10 year has different plans for different scenarios.

“If he comes in shooting I’ll…”
“If he’s just shooting in the hallway…”
“If my teacher gets shot…”

This past spring at the last school, they had a lockdown when there was a nearby robbery, possibly armed. It was hectic because parents only got a text that there was a lockdown and nothing else for a long time. Very stressful.

I love the term fleeing. Luke running out of a house that's in fire. But alot of admin bully teachers out after the ubiquitous grade inflation corruption that we are not trained on how to do or how to react to when we are told to do so. I did not resign but they reported that I did so they could block unemployment benefits. Classy move mcps and mcea.
Anonymous
Simple answer is teachers are treated like unpro crap and blamed for society's ills while being paid peanuts and getting no support from the admin or union.

The school buildings were closed for a year. Education continued for those who chose to partake.

Where are you that has earthquake drills? Just curious.

We have lockdown (once or twice a year practice), tornado and fire. A NoVa district.
