I can’t tell if this is supposed to be satire? In case PP meant it genuinely…
You do realize that Social Security, Medicare, and the air travel system are FROM THE GOVERNMENT, right? The reason they’re still continuing is because there are exceptions in the shutdown. But they’re still government services.

Maybe finally something will be done once and for all to shrink the bloated nanny state and bleed dry the thousands of leeches around here -- the so-called "lobbyists, contractors and strategists" who've enriched themselves on the backs of taxpayers.

Hmm . . . They are still working.

Free health care for illegal aliens, seriously?

And who controls both houses of congress?

? 60 votes is required in the Senate to pass CR. The Repubs got 55, they only have a bare majority in the Senate.

That is a lie.
Democrats released a budget proposal that seeks to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies before they expire at the end of the year. The plan, put forward by Connecticut Representative Rosa DeLauro and Washington Senator Patty Murray, also includes a reversal of Medicaid cuts made earlier this year.
The proposal does not include free healthcare for illegal immigrants.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Monday that Republicans were misrepresenting the Democratic Party’s position.

“Federal law prohibits the expenditure of taxpayer dollars on providing healthcare to undocumented immigrants,” Jeffries told reporters. “Nowhere have democrats suggested that we are interested in changing federal law.

According to KFF, an organization that analyzes health policy in the U.S., under the Republicans’ 2025 Tax and Budget Law, 1.4 million lawfully present immigrants could lose health coverage.

The analysis refers to the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) own reporting, which said $131 billion could be saved by making it so that a smaller list of lawful immigrants is able to access Medicaid and CHIP. Among the immigrants set to lose access to health care plans are refugees and asylees, those paroled into the U.S., and those with Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

The BBB limited the scope of ACA subsidies to exclude these groups- who are here legally. Immigrant =/= illegal.

Yep. This is the irony. Myself and my colleagues are still working. We are paid by the government but aren't feds. It's the way and sequence in which contracts are awarded, which year's budget the money comes from. The feds who are furloughed will also get paid, despite not having worked. No money is saved and in fact a shutdown incurs additional costs. You do not get to pay less taxes as a result of a shutdown. You only get less services.

Just adding that this isnt the whole component Democrats are fighting for. Lots of rural and self-employed and others will lose ACA subsidies.

Those constituencies overwhelmingly vote MAGA. Give them what they voted for.

DP. I'm tired of money getting taken out of my pay check for health insurance subsidies for complete strangers.

The HC industry is holding this country hostage. We spend 17% of GDP on HC. The next closest countries, Germany and the UK spend 10% to 11%.

Most other countries spend 6% to 7%. Why are we an outlier? There's practically no competition here. Just govt writing checks to pharma, hospitals and medical establishments. And people paying hefty friggin' premiums.

And democrats are right at the front of the line saying we need to spend more and more. Enough already.

I think we all agree that our healthcare system is a disaster. In the short term, we're all going to be paying more out of pocket if those subsidies are canceled.

lol under Trump healthcare will go up to 24% of GDP in a year. Get ready for healthcare rationing. Can’t wait for all those rural hospitals to shut down!

Oh and the only people I know on ACA are republicans and maga.
