Airplane noise concerns overblown?

It is a really lovely area but with a lot of airplane noise especially on days with North Flow operations.

That doesn’t bother most but bothers others 41 pages worth of thread.

Thanks, Realtor.

Of course it’s an issue.

It was never an issue for me until I read about it and now every morning at 6:00 am when the first plane takes off from National, it's all I can hear and I can't fall back asleep.

This thread is a gem. There is no other like it.

Please provide links to any other forum with so much information on the issue. The only place I know of is the community noise group at DCA that has been behind some of the recent changes, especially those in MoCo, but one needs a lot of time and patience to go through all the documents.

More big changes are on the way, as soon as mid-July, so the thread should be very relevant.

The good news is that all that misinformation that somebody posted last year across multiple threads (like saying that the recent
flight path changes were the result of FAA's attempts to redistribute the noise!!!) has now stopped as well as all those comments calling posters OCD and other names.

Montgomery County residents are treated like a bunch of fools by their elected officials. I told myself a while back that I will never vote for another Democrat in the County or State. This information only reinforces my belief.

As the OP who created this thread, thanks! I'm also excited to see what changes mid-July.

Note that there is a community meeting on zoom on July 25th at 6pm EST that anyone can attend. The link is available on the link you shared (https://www.flyreagan.com/about-airport/aircraft-noise-information/dca-reagan-national-community-working-group).

Same here. I don't even bother to set an alarm anymore -- that 6:00am flight is like clockwork. EVERY DAY.

Beyond that, I don't really notice it too much. The only other time I really noticed it was a couple years back on the athletic field at a school function. The head of school had to stop and wait for the jet noise to died down in the middle of his speech.

I believe that changes in arrival procedures already went into effect a few days ago. The changes are primarily in Montgomery County, north and west of Cabin John. This is a great resource to see how airplanes fly now.

Strange we have not heard anything about it.

Changes in MoCo have not yet been implemented.

However, major changes are coming to Alexandria and Fairfax County. Here's more info:

Wow! The process the jurisdictions of PG, Fairfax and Alexandria are following is very impressive. Public forums, solicitation of feedback....None of this was done in the case of the GPS arrival procedure they are currently implementing North of the airport.

Where do you live?

Do you have the world’s worst windows and insulation?

Omg I live in a lovely home on a loud ass street. Have lived here for 2@ years. It has gotten worse. When we first moved here, there was the bus outside which announced its destination in its to o voice, and there were the emergency vehicles. We live near hospitals and a fire station. During the pandemic for some reason there were road crews out constantly digging up the pavement and putting it back. Like a dental drill but louder. The souped up engines with loud bass have now become a nonstop menace.

We’re moving finally. But I would warn anyone I cared about not to buy in a loud area! You might really regret it (I think my husband lost some hearing too).

Seems like the southbound river operation has gotten a lot quieter for folks living along the river. Northbound takeoffs are still noisy (on the moco side). Any idea when the northbound changes will be implemented?

Do you mind explaining what the changes will be? We are looking in MoCo.
