UMC suburban college student lied about background to become prestigious Rhodes Scholar

I suspect that, if the real story ever comes out, it will be pretty similar to the Jackie/Rolling stone situation. I suspect Mackenzie started putting things in place long before she applied to Questbridge/Penn. like, she likes fabricated the incident with her mother, made up “symptoms” that would keep her in the hospital longer, refused to go home to her mom or other family to get placed in foster care. It just seems so unlikely to me (who had a shit childhood with an abusive mother) that one incident would get her placed in foster care so quickly. Even if part of her story is true, she would have had a compelling narrative of “I had a pretty nice life and it all went downhill quickly but I managed to keep it together and do well in school”

She just sounds like a smart, diabolical narcissist.

And I know this is totally unrelated (and probably mean) but if she really wanted to help improve the foster care system, she could have put her fancy Penn BA to good use. Instead, he keeps piling on fancy degrees (that other people pay for) to study the work other people are doing.

Fierceton’s story is probably destined to become a movie plot and possibly a Broadway musical: possible titles- Ivy Mask/ Varsity Bluffer/ U Penn Pretender/ College Charlatan.

In the right hands, telling her story could illuminate the insanity of US College application and admission processes, flesh out Fierecton’s humanity as well as manipulations and be entertaining.

yes, will take its place alongside the Lori Laughlin college admission scadal and the Jackie U.Va. rape hoax. All fell apart once the media started asking a few questions

I do honestly wonder though if Fierceton could have gotten into Penn and/or won a Rhodes Scholarship by playing it straight and not embellishing her story.

I agree x1000. But in the rape case UVA did a great but disgusting job of covering/ misdirecting. Yes one person embellished. But 2 women were raped and their rapists convicted. But all anyone remembers is the Jackie story. Sad.

Embellished? She made the story up. It was all a complete lie. And so many on DCUM (including maybe you?) rushed to her defense even as the story fell apart. I see the same thing here with the Fierceton case.

Once again, you are ignoring the fact that 2 women in the story were raped by that frat.

No they weren’t. Please go read Wikipedia. There was one woman involved. She claimed the rape took place on 2012 but didn’t make any reportage until needled by the reporter for Rolling Stone case who was looking for a victim to write about for a rape feature. It was a total fabrication. The story (one woman) came out in 2014. At that point UVA did shut down the frats while the Charlottesville police investigated. In 2015 the police shut the case because it became clear the woman had lied. Rolling Stone Magazine retracted the story in 2015. Some of the names men and their families sued Rolling Stone Magazine and recovered damages. There are not two other women in the story. What did you expect Teresa Sullivan to do when this story came out? Ignore it? I think she handled it well. But while you’re at slamming schools for prematurely siding with the victim be sure to mention the shameful actions of the Duke faculty in the similar Duke Lacrosse case. . Those wrongly accused men also recovered damages.

^ I forgot about that one. What was astonishing in both cases is the high percentage of DCUM posters who abandoned plain common sense to side with the young women despite the total evidence showing their case had no merit whatsoever. The same thing is happening here with the Fierceton case..

Reading comprehension fail. One woman in the article gained convection of rape because the rapist confessed in AA.

? what are you talking about? That had absolutely nothing to do with Jackie's false claims of rape against the U.Va. frat, sensationalized in the Rolling Stone article. Like here, she made some spectacular claims which any reasonable person would question as being fiction.

oops, apologies to the pp - I think you were agreeing that there was a guy who confessed to rape several years after it happened - his conscience got the better of him and he called and confessed. That had nothing to do with Jackie's bogus rape claim though.

It was in the same rolling stone's article. There were 3 stories in the article, the only story anybody remember is the 1 false one.

Unfortunately it was in the same article.

I think she understood the college admissions game, and in particular Penn's desire to get more FGLI students, and just went a bit too far. I'll bet there are other college essays out there not too much different from hers. But she got caught.

I guess homeless students get a pass.

All students are homeless until they get a place to live.

Not most students. Most have homes to go to during break/summer/graduation.

This was a huge issue when they vacated dorms due to COVID. Dimwits forgot some students are homeless without their dorm.

Apparently Fierceton’s mother, realizing this, wrote to her department with contact info for a variety of family members in various states but she went to live with her professor instead.

Interesting that little attention has been paid in all these posts to what the plaintiff is actually asking for in her lawsuit.

The only concrete action she is asking for is an injunction from the court to require that Penn award to her her MSW.

Beyond that, she ask that the court use its judgment to provide any monetary and/or other unspecified compensation for her long list of alleged damages.

That’s it.

She could have her MSW if she paid 4K in restitution and apologized. Penn made that clear. But she would rather sue, for reasons that are unclear.

If you read her complaint, her reasons are crystal clear.

So Penn wants an apology? How petty are they? She’s met all the requirements for her master’s.They said so in writing. But they won’ t give it to her unless they get an apology?!! Seriously. And $4K, which is chump change for them. Otherwise they have no objection to her receiving her MSW. So all the accusations about her lies and misrepresentations and violations of the “honor” code are all just hot air. Just blowing smoke. No principle involved that a little groveling and a few thousand bucks can’t take care of. They’re idiots.

Okay, Mackenzie.
