I meant Letizia and Felipe specifically, not Letizia and her MIL. MIL/DIL has been fraught since the dawn of humanity, and I think Felipe was always mama's golden boy and probably nobody would ever be good enough for him in Sofia's eyes. But Felipe and Letizia have managed themselves and their lives without drama and public spectacle.

I had to roll my eyes when she said she couldn’t get herself help because the Royal Family took her keys and passport. If that’s true that is literally imprisonment. That is a big deal to casually throw out there (which of course means it’s not true.)

They are literally the King and Queen and before that the heir and his wife. Of course they managed it - they control the coutiers! Just like Felipe’s father managed to steal and grift a billion dollars in personal fortune over 50 years with none of his Spanish subjects being the wiser.

The same thing happens to US Presidents. Obama said on the record he lost his credit card and passport holding privileges. He can’t drive for life. They tried to take his blackberry and he fought them.

It's not uncommon for people in senior positions to have their passports etc managed by fixers or aides. I imagine if she had requested them, they would have provided them. But she was suicidal and by definition not in a frame of mind to reason through logistics.
