Men- do you feel pressure to maintain your looks for your wife?

Anonymous
Spin off of the other thread. Thought it would be interesting to get the male perspective.

Men do you workout to keep your butt high and tight?

Yes and no. I work out because I like to feel strong, I like to be healthy, and I like to be fit enough to enjoy various sports and recreational activities. But I am well aware that women are not attracted to fat guys, and are more attracted to guys with visible muscles than guys with none.

So, it's mostly for me, but it's for her too.

Sounds like what a lot of the wives said. So apparently EVERYONE is working out only for themselves and not for their partner?

I agree with prior post - yes and know. I'm 60 and I see so many guys my age who let themselves go to pot in their 40's and now they really look old. I'm about 15 pounds overweight and would love to lose it but I'm more concerned about basic fitness such as core strength and flexibility so I can continue to play sports. I generally work out 2-3 times a week. So I do it for myself. At the same time I know my wife prefers that I be trim (er!) and fit because its healthy. And, we have a very active sex life and I'm sure she doesn't want to hop in the sack with a fat guy. Nor I with a fat woman.

Yes.

Yes, I do. As PP said, its mostly for me but I am also cognizant that its important to be in reasonably good shape for your partner.

My wife has recently gotten into really good shape. We were both about 10-15 pounds overweight, no big deal, both active. But she lost her weight, its motivational for me to lose mine.

DH/53 here...The only pressure I feel is when my pants get snug around the waist. DW has always been supportive of my exercise regimen and stays fit as well. I've never felt pressure from her.

Yes. I want to look good for her.

She did not marry me for my looks. I am not concerned. Medical conditions will prevent me from ever looking good again.

Except for those partners who aren't doing it for themselves.

I would dress sluttily for my partner, though, if he were interested. Working out is for me.

DH has already told me my stomach is gross looking since I had twins. It won't look good again without a tummy tuck. I had been trying to lose baby weight and get back to my old size for him, then I realized he's going to think I'm unattractive pretty much no matter what I do, short of surgery. So now I do it for me. Doing it for him only leads to disappointment.
