Son's rich friends (GDS) are wearing $1000 jeans, now he wants a couple pairs too

Anyone else going through this? How in the world do families have this much disposal cash?

Does this really fly at GDS? Most of the kids my DC knows who attend that school wear no label stuff.

What does the name of the school your ds attends have to do with anything?

It's irrelevant how much disposable cash they have. The real question is why would they spend it on jeans for a teenage boy? Idiotic.

Amiri's jeans are WAY overpriced for what you get. IF, and only IF, you are going to give in and go for expensive jeans, buy your son the Balmain version of all these jeans. Once he outgrows them, he can at least resell them to recoup some of the money you spent on them. The aftermarket for Amiri's jeans just doesn't exist like that at the moment, nor do I think it ever will.

You tell your son, "don't be ridiculous. No one needs $1000 jeans.". Then buy him a pair of $30 jeans at target and send $30 to a charity. Have him watch you write the check.

If you can't figure out these conversations, you have failed as a parent. But cool story bro.

If we had the kind of money that $1000 was a drop in the bucket, and my ds asked me to spend $1000 on a pair of jeans for him, I would reevaluate everything about my life and the example I have set for him.

This.

I would openly mock my kid for asking for such nonsense.

My thoughts exactly. If my teen asked for a pair of $1,000 jeans, I would feel like I had failed as a parent.

The shocking part of this post is that OPs question how others afford these jeans. Do you really think that's the issue?

My son would not be caught in those jeans.

I suggest if your son wants them he can get a job.
