When do you all think we are getting the immigration reforms?
What do u think about that? *People that are here for more than 10 years without papers; *Legalizing everyone??? Tell me your thoughts. Thank's. |
I am for it-I think you can't kick out that many people and many are performing jobs that many Americans don't want to do. I do think we need to tighten the borders though--kind of do what Reagan did but close off the borders so we don't have to do this again so soon. |
I think it's inevitable it will happen but I don't see it happening this year. Too much else going on. |
So, after they are legal and eligible for welfare, you think they will still cut the lawns in 90 degree weather? NOT. I say send them ALL back home. |
Not true. My friend is desparate for work and can't find work anywhere doing ANYTHING. Not even CVS has an open position. She is also furious because she is on WIC and visits a free clinic (as her baby has no health insurance, her husband had to drop it or else they could not eat) and she knows that many illegals compete with her for scarce resources. Especially rignt now with our economy, illegals are definitly impacting Americans who have NEVER needed a hand up in their lives, but need help now. |
We need to reevaluate these "jobs that Americans won't do". Let's take a peek at the working conditions before we import people. We should be ashamed of ourselves. |
I say the opposite! They will be cutting the grass and paying the taxes from it! There is A LOT of honnest people in this world! * I am sure you have "one of them" doing the lawn for you. ![]() |
I think it's a very difficult and complex issue that cannot be fully explored in a few sentences on a message board. And it'll piss people off to boot. |
I thought a lot of people who were thinking about coming to the US are staying in their home countries and illegal aliens are going back home because the US economy is down. But I guess when the economy turns around, people will come back in droves. |
Can they get their baby on CHIP? In Maryland, it covers up to 300 or 400% of the federal poverty level, I can't remember which. States vary, but it's a good option for kids when parents aren't making very much. |
I am for expanding immigration quotas, so that people from ALL over the world can come here legally. If you are here illegally you have broken the law--go home, and apply legally like everyone else is expected to do (Kenyans, Mongolians, Indians etc.). And, strengthen the borders not by sending the National Guard, but by supporting Customs and Border Protection infrastructure and operations. |
The problem is that if we have too many people from one country here, they could change our culture too much. Let's face it, these people are escaping economic problems that were usually brought on by screwed up political values. They might have little to do with their home country's political problems, but they often come with that culture. They often see nothing wrong with the thuggery, graft an bribery that is commonplace in some poor countries. When too many from one country come here, they might not melt in our pot, but rather chill our pot. I still think that the mafia problem in the early 1900's would have been less severe if fewer people from certain countries came here.
Realistically, we can't take in everyone who wants to come. We should be more choosy. Most of all, take many people from many different countries, and many different ethnic groups to avoid collusive behavior. Flame away. FWIW, I cut my own lawn, my maid is legal, and always has been. |
I think a good first step to understanding our culture is to come here legally, no matter what country you are from. |
Children who came here with their parents and grew up here only knowing the United States should be allowed to go to public universities and get the same kind of aid that citizens get.
Here's why: we need them to be educated and working in our society and contributing to Social Security. As someone who is approaching retirement, I am very concerned that a bunch of smart, hard-working kids, who didn't make the choice themselves to immigrate to this country will be prevented from "being all they can be," and helping to support our infrastructure (and me through Social Security). As regards this particular group of people, it not in the interest of current US citizens to punish them. They can contribute! And they're not going to leave for countries they barely even know! Let them contribute! |
pp, get real. That will just encourage more people to do the same. I don't care if you are on the honor roll and don't speak a word of your birth country's language. If you get caught, than , bye-bye. |
