Any funky little neighborhoods in DC area? With Northern California-type vibe?

Or a Pacific Northwest vibe or Vermonty type vibe? Del Ray maybe? Is that as good as it gets? Takoma park?

OP here— in talking about downtown areas with restaurants etc. like downtown boulder CO, Los Gatos or Saratoga CA, etc.

I am originally from San Jose area.

Are you looking for a quaint downtown or woodsy area with a little downtown?

I think the older areas like Bethesda and Silver Spring have downtowns like Los Gatos. Rockville has town center but it's not very big, though there are sort of satellite restaurants just outside the center.

mount rainier - funky and hip but not upscale. Right outside dc border. up and coming. DC is not as sanitized as bay area. I mean that in a mostly good way if what you like is funky, urban, diverse, hipster. If what you want is safe and good schools wrapped in a bohemian blanket a la berkeley or something, that;s not here.
