Why do we dance around that we want our kids at elite colleges so they meet

and eventually marry a smart & wealthy college peer?

My most successful cousins went to elites and married college gf/bf and they're all super successful and stable. My state college family are mostly - no, not all - bitching about student loans, crappy jobs, and their horrible dating life.

Alcoholic State colleges teach kids how to be degenerate slobs. Of course kids party at elite colleges too, but they're also receiving polish from the cultured ethos.

Double Ivy here married to another Ivy grad.

Our non-Ivy siblings have happier lives - less focused on money, less obsessed with politics, and more invested in family.

Ivy Grad here married to another Ivy grad -- whom I met at age 38. I can't imagine marrying someone I met in undergrad. Are you high?

There's nothing I want my kids to learn about "cultured ethos" from Dartmouth or Cornell.

I went to an elite college and gradschool. After which I met and married a college dropout.

I guess I failed! Oops! But we're happy and have healthy kids and make enough money to put together a fantastic Thanksgiving meal for our friends and family so I think we're pretty successful.

Because that's not why most of us want to send our kids there.

Does that blow your mind, OP?

I am AMAZED at ho many cabinet members have a Harvard pedigree. It seems like the people who run the world all went to Harvard.

Yup. My foreign husband went to the foreign equivalent. We met later, as well.

My brother and his dingbat wife met at their second rate college. They are very happy and have a good life.
