They have no idea how the 04's would perform this year when they were awarded a DA so why would it matter next year? Arlington is big club that is better to have in DA than not. I don't think it is so much of a guarantee as much as it is the likely the plan.

100% agree. Arlington makes sense as a Girls DA team. I can't imagine that the plan by US Soccer isn't to continue adding to the program much like it often does on the boys side.

There had to be some reason they didn't just award it all at once. Seems like staffing or field availability would be the most likely reason. Or it could have been questions about the strength of the program at the older ages. If you thought the program was strong at younger ages and weaker at the older ones, you might delay the award for the older age groups. If it was a guarantee or a matter of course, they would have awarded it all up front.

There are too many DAs in our area within short distance of each other. There's simply not enough talent to go around.
Awarding Arlington older age groups DA status will only further dilute the talent in the DAs.

Anyone know the ratio of player to population in the area our DAs serve as compared to other DA serving areas?

There must be some reason that Arlington convinced someone that another club was in the best interests of serving our area rather than it being arbitrary.

At least VDA looked like it served a different locale but 2 of their training days were probably located closer to fcv and spirit than ther home fields.

I don’t think it’s too many DAs, rather too many “elite” options. When you throw in the ECNL clubs, that pushes things way over the top. If it were just the four DA options for MD-DC-VA, I don’t think that would be too many.

^ Is the generalization true that for the younger age groups like 2006 that the shift would be to DA options and that the B players moved towards the ECNL clubs on average?

..... or put another way, now that results are coming in for the 2018-19 season and DA/ECNL rosters are online showing who got the A players and who got the B players, is there any update yet to all that earlier hullabaloo about the trend for youngers .....

It is still early to tell with the younger age groups. It will be more clear in Jan at the DA ID sessions. Many of the 07s are still deciding where to focus trying out.

based on what i've seen with my own eyes, no. There are strong younger players in both DA and ECNL as of now. The move may be starting, but it's not a total shift. It may take a few years to get to that point, in my opinion.

I tend to lean with this asssment. But kids tend to follow their friends so there may be some pockets where a shift happens more dramatically and others where none occurs as some teams may prefer to stay together.

True, especially with girls. I think the shift is will not be nearly as rapid as it was with boys. In fact, even the ECNL took a while to take root, and that had no competition.

in Virginia FCV 07s will stay for DA. They are ranked 154 in region 1, but a better team then that. The 2 big power clubs with very strong 07 girls are Loudoun (ranked #8) and Mclean (#26), but they are the ECNL, so any DA shift may not occur unless say top 3-5 at each club defect. The other 2 DAs, WS and arlington (#102) are either non-existent or a weaker group, so if everyone stays home, it will all be spread out and diluted again with 2 strong ECNL clubs at that age . . . . . Loudoun + Mclean.

braddock (#110) is the ECNL but probably lower on chain.

All speculation but a lot may be about the DAs trying to get commits before the ECNLdoes . . . . . why doesn't the ECNL change that approch and go earlier?

The problem with using GotSoccer is it mostly only tracks tourneys and the carryover of points in the fall can be very misleading depending on a teams tournament schedule. This can inflate a clubs ranking or deflate.

Youth Soccer rankings tends to look at more info including league standings when available.
