Did it ever occur to you that your ability to make those donations is due in part to you benefiting from the white supremacy and its attendant structural racism due to your lack of pigmentation? Sort of proves the whole point that your life in America hasn't been anywhere near as harsh , tragic and violent (continuously ) as that of AAs doesn't it? Does it ever occur to you that if America had lived up to what it says it is as country then the donations of individuals like you and your thinly veiled superiority complex wouldn't have been needed ?

I think the point is, it is disheartening to be a part of a community and in the spirit of giving, discover that not only are you not appreciated (which is fine) but engender open hostility. No one is looking for accolades in their donation of time and/or money. But the anger directed to people who are trying to help is sad.

Thank you. I'm the PP who specifically said I wasn't expecting accolades for my contributions but that I didn't expect to be attacked by the very people I am donating money to in an effort to be of help. And what happens? I get attacked! I have to actively work to remind myself that the PP who is accusing me of a superiority complex is just one hateful individual and not to let it impact my decisions regarding donations.

To me, this is the key.

There are hateful, distorted people in all demographics. Sometimes, it feels like they are the most vocal. Although it isn't at all clear that the PP you're referencing is, in fact, who they say they are.

If you weren't expecting accolades you should've never talked about it . Talking about your charitable work is gauche as hell

That was because some angry black man - or at least he SAID he was a black man - dumped on Jews and accused them of not caring about black people's struggles (on a thread that was originally about antisemitism) and I made the mistake of trying to show that it wasn't true - and that Jews are in fact quite generous. But with some people, it's damned if you do and damned if you don't.

And you're really disturbed. Your response to someone who is voluntarily donating money is to dump on her about about white privilege shit and how if it had a good country, blacks wouldn't need help? WTH is wrong with you? Poor black communities - particularly the children, which is where my heart lies - definitely need help, and yet you are resentful to the very people who voluntarily provide it?

The only one who is disturbed is you , purposely choosing what you want to argue on and conveniently side stepping what isn't falling in line with your agenda . I simply noted that anyone who feels the need to bring his charitable work within the context of this discussion isn't as charitable as they'd like to think . You chose to makes excuses on behalf of that individual . How quaint ?!

Trayon White doesn't care if Jews are upset at him.

Jews don't live in decrepit section 8 housing in Ward 8. Jews aren't killed in drive-by shootings on Alabama Ave. Jews aren't smoking weed all day long and not graduating high school. Jews aren't having 6 kids with 6 different baby daddies. Jews are victims of predatory lending and home refinance scams. Jews are being systematically harassed by the police.

But the people who voted for Trayon White are dealing with ALL those things. And White understands these issues, and is trying to improve their lives.

Black people in Ward 8 don't give a damn about any holocaust. Ever hear of slavery? They got enough on their plate to deal with without being told they need to take up someone else's struggle, and be angry at one of their own who speaks truth to power.

Blacks in Ward 8 are just as much individuals as anyone else.
Blacks are not a monolith, not in Ward 8 or anywhere else.
Many blacks are struggling with similar challenges but they’re not all incapable of caring about anyone but themselves.
Many blacks are caught up in common crises but they’re not all oblivious to the fact that discrimination/intolerance towards any group is abominable.
Many blacks are mired in mutual plights but they’re not all apathetic or indifferent to the challenges, crises, and plights of others - nothing could be farther from the truth.
Your sweeping generalization of blacks and insinuation that we’re all the same is a clear-cut example of the ignorant ideology that has perpetuated the challenges and crises and plights that plague or communities to this day.
Plain and simply put - speak for your damn self ain’t nobody ask you or give you permission to speak for all blacks.

I think trayon white representing blacks in ward 8 will just perpetuate negative conceptions many people already have

He's not doing his constituents any favors

He’s a native of Ward 8 and not only knows the people but knows the problems as well so I think he could potentially do a lot for his constituents but he has to A) know his limitations - being an elected official does not mean one is above reproach, B) know the workings of the DC Council - adopting an “us” versus “them” mentality is not productive, and C) know the limits of success when saddled with baggage - nobody’s going to respect his voice if they hear him spouting bullshit.
