So, in my experience the statement that "most restaurants have it on a kids menu" is false, but that "most restaurants that serve pasta will allow you to order it with just butter for your kids" is probably accurate.

Planta -- no pasta, but a variety of Asian noodles. They don't list just butter as an option, but maybe they could make it with plant butter?

Chipotle -- no noodles on menu

Founding Farmers -- no kids menu, no buttered noodles on regular menu, but I'm sure they'd make it if you asked

Neighborhood Japanese menu -- no kids menu, no buttered pasta on the regular menu. They do serve ramen and udon and soba noodles, but not plain. Might make it if you asked, but not sure if they have butter.

Chopt -- no noodles on either kids or regular menu

Silver -- offers buttered noodles as a choice!!!! Comes with vegetables, although they allow substitutions

Five Guys -- doesn't have a kids menu, doesn't serve noodles of any type.

Pines of Rome -- No kids menu but they offer an adult sized portion of linguini with "butter sauce" and an option to sub penne. It costs $13.95 which, assuming "butter sauce" is a euphemism for butter seems like a lot of money!

Thai restaurant -- has noodles but not specifically pasta. No kids menu. My guess is they'd bring you plain noodles if you asked, but not sure if they'd offer butter

Seasons 52 -- has two types of pasta on the kids menu (mac and cheese, and cavatappi with red sauce). In my experience they'll make any change you ask for so I imagine they'd happily leave the red sauce off and add butter.

I’m sure you could have used your common sense to realize that places like planta, chipotle and a couple others wouldn’t fit the description of restaurants that would offer this. Don’t be an idiot. 5 guys? Come on-this is just dumb.

So, when you wrote that most places offer it, did you mean most American or Italian restaurants that would have a kids menu? If so, do you realize that is a totally different statement than what you wrote?

I wasn’t the pp that originally wrote the comment. But it shouldn’t matter-the fact that you thought that it would apply to a place like 5 guys or chipotle tells me you don’t have any common sense.

+1. I was the poster who wrote that, and I specifically said pasta isn't available at Mexican restaurants. It didn't occur to me that anyone would look for it at a burger joint, but I guess I should have added that caveat too.

+2

Even looking for it at Japanese or Thai restaurants demonstrates that poster’s idiocy. I sincerely hope she is just trolling us - it’s scary to think that people THAT stupid walk among us…

So the person who used all caps to emphasize that it was at "EVERY" restaurant didn't remotely mean that? They meant just shitty American chain restaurants that most of the people in here claim they would never even go to?

you are just being needlessly obtuse and You know they didn’t mean places like frekan Chopt or five guys. Honestly, how you can go from those places to say “you only meant shitty american chains” is telling. And more than likely a Japanese or thai restaurant would provide buttered noodles on request-they just likely wouldn’t be penne or bow ties but the kind of noodles that they have there. They have noodles and butter. Most of those places don’t even have kids menus at all so it makes sense that people would request something simple like that for a kid sometimes.

No, that person doesn't know what words mean or how to communicate effectively. Common sense tells you that this crap meal is available at a few restaurants and sometimes only by request. Try that next time.

Any good restaurant has both pasta and butter on hand, lol. That poster actually posted a bunch of chain restaurants that *don't* have this on the menu.

Pasta al burro is a classic Roman dish featuring fettuccine tossed with high-quality butter and Parmigiano-Reggiano, creating a rich, creamy sauce using only pasta water for emulsification—no heavy cream required. You know OP was not adding parmigiano reggiano or making an emulsion with the pasta water. be for real.

They may have the ingredients to whip it up for a picky kid but it's not on the menu like it's the chef's special. Which goes back to the original point that this lunch is an odd choice.

When other kids seem rude to me, I don’t get upset, I just use it as a learning experience for my kids. Remind them that they can compliment the food or say “no thank you”, but other comments are unnecessary.

I think it was the mother that said it- not the kid....

Ohhh I definitely missed that!

Yeah that’s a weird comment from an adult. She’s probably carb-a-phobic don’t take it personally

Pasta was the only thing on the plate so she didn't know what to do because she usually pushes the pasta around and nibbles at the almighty protein (as long as it's not breaded God forbid). Poor thing must have been like a deer in headlights.

Nope, you’re just painfully stupid and don’t understand how to “read between the lines” - the obvious implication is that any restaurant *that would otherwise serve pasta* would also have buttered noodles on the kid’s menu. Now, is that an exaggeration? Sure! Nobody actually thinks that EVERY restaurant (ahem, that would otherwise serve pasta - I say this again because I assume you forgot already) offers the same buttered noodles kid’s meal option. However, the intended effect of this exaggeration is to demonstrate that this offering is, in fact, extremely common.

I hope this helps. Maybe stay off TikTok and YouTube tonight and try to read a book or something.

I bolded the ones that list buttered pasta (2/10) and italicized the ones where I think you could get buttered pasta (3/10).

The person assumed a basic level of common sense, which you have sadly failed to demonstrate. That’s on you.

They may have the ingredients to whip it up for a picky kid but it's not on the menu like it's the chef's special. Which goes back to the original point that this lunch is an odd choice.

I don't think any (normal) person here thought buttered pasta or any other item on the kids menu is the chef's special.

There are quite a few kids who prefer buttered pasta as opposed to tomato pasta.
Here’s a popular NYC chains answer to the issue …..

Kids Menu
MAKE YOUR OWN PASTA
Pick a pasta: fusilli, rigatoni, penne
Pick a sauce: butter, tomato, meat sauce

There were some immature posters who kept talking about poor food or depression area food and insulting people’s take on it. I always remember pasta with sauce or butter being offered at Italian restaurants for kids. It’s just a simple matter of choice. Neither one is superior to the other. Not everyone will eat like you do, we all have our preferences.

I think I posted up thread but can’t remember. But in DC , Pizza Paradiso , Matchbox , the Salt Line, Maggiano’s , and Old Ebbitt Grill all have buttered pasta listed on their kids menu. There’s probably more that I’m forgetting but it is served at many places around here. I’ve never had it and neither have my kids but I didn’t know so many people thought it was a weird meal.
