Surely your school doesn't expect the snow to melt before they do outdoor recess. We used to make giant snowmen at recess. Or, when we were bad, we would make giant snow balls and push them into the street... |
If MCPS wants to keep schools closed every time there’s snow or ice on the ground and keep the many professional development/non instructional day scattered throughout the current calendar, the school year needs to start a week earlier in August. |
And we need to stop giving every single holiday off. We just can't do it. |
+100 to all of this. |
But it’s not that. Teachers have asked for more non instructional days to fit in grading duties and professional development. That they happen to put those on holidays for certain ethnic groups is just extra. |
Riddle me this -- why is Lunar New Year off this year? It's not a grading day... |
Start with Easter Monday and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. |
Yes that is one day they should open schools because of last week. Also March 20th should be open. |
Wed before Thanksgiving should remain closed. Many absences that day and ends up being a movie day if schools are open. |
Same reason that we can’t have school on June 19th but we can have a makeup day on Presidents Day. |
Juneteenth is a Federal Holiday (as is Presidents Day). Lunar New Year and Eid are not. |
| I just popped into the FCPS thread -- to what extent do you think the superintendents of the neighboring districts are coordinating? Apparently they're reading into the latest communication that they'll be closed tomorrow. |
| I just remembered that my kid's marching band is missing school from Tuesday Feb 10th through Friday the 13th to go to Florida for a performance. Those kids basically taking 2 weeks off in the MP. Good for them |
Easter Mon is required to be closed by state |
| Will they still announce if its on time opening? |
