This. I don't know where PP is posting this article from but it's skipping over the part where Gaetz happily spent a lot of time with Greenberg and attended many events hosted or organized by Greenberg before Greenberg was investigated by the DOJ and wound up pleading guilty. This narrative that Greenberg was actually trying to extort Gaetz the whole time and Gaetz held firm and rejected him doesn't track because if Greenberg were doing that stuff and Gaetz wanted nothing to do with it, why did Gaetz continue to hang out with him for so long? Also we know that Gaetz showed photos and videos of himself in sexual situations with young women with House colleagues on the floor of the House (often without their consent to view that stuff and one of Gaetz's many behaviors that pissed off his caucus and led to the ethics investigation that almost certainly was going to get him booted from Congress if he hadn't resigned). Any narrative that portrays Gaetz as an innocent victim is false -- we KNOW he's a gross pervert, even if some of the allegations against him can't be proven because the witnesses are also gross perverts. Gaetz 100% got himself into this situation by being disgusting and unethical and having poor judgment. And if he gets out of it, it won't be because he's innocent. It will be because he kissed Trump's butt for years and that paid off when Trump won re-election. There is no mystery here. It's not a question of whether Gaetz is qualifed to be AG or whether he did things that are inappropriate or illegal. He's not and he definitely did. The only question is whether our political system can actually hold him to account and prevent him taking this position and if I had to put money on it I'd say "probably not." We'll see though -- the Senate surprised me a few times during Trump I. |

DP. FFS. The Biden DOJ didn't "clear" Gaetz. They decided that they didn't have sufficient evidence to create a likelihood of conviction. BTW, I live in Gaetz's district. He's widely regarded as a scumbag among those in the know. |

They did not “clear him.” They declined to file charges because they thought the witnesses would have issues before a jury. |

To be fair, we don't know that he drugged and raped the women. We know that they were using drugs and some were underage - so, a crime, but perhaps a different crime. He also shared photos with other members of Congress, so there may be some legal violations there, too. Also shows him just to be a terrible person. |

+1 Even my MAGA acquaintances loathe Gaetz. He is, by all accounts, both a despicable human being and utterly unqualified to be AG. |
