Suggest you visit both. They each have their own character and pick what is best. FH has greater academics diversity among its students where Potomac is students of similar abilities making it more of a pressure cooker. FH the students can choose more the amount t of rigor they want |
They are not similar; Potomac is a much stronger school. |
Flint Hill is the safety school and Potomac is the reach. |
I am new to this thread. My child went to FH over a decade ago. Maybe things have changed somewhat since then but it doesn't seem like it. My child had ADHD. From the moment he walked into that classroom as a kindergartener, I received almost weekly messages from the teachers. He wasn't sitting the right way, he was touching door knobs while walking in line down the hallway, why is his lunch packed with olives and cheese instead of crackers like the other kids, he didn't put his backpack in the bin the right way....Eventually he was counseled out. Yet there was a child in his class who was physically aggressive and his mother told me he had ODD. That family contributed a lot to the school. Their son was never counseled out. I have never forgiven that school for their mistreatment of my son, their insensitivity, and the disparity of treatment between wealthy donating families and families like us who could not donate as much. Now we are doing much better financially and my child has outgrown many of his issues. He's doing extremely well in school. I have younger children still but I will never, ever send them to FH. |
Both are great choices |
The admission person we worked with at FH was blatantly homophobic. We were welcomed with open arms at Langley. We will be looking at Potomac, or DC schools for HS. FH will never be in the picture. |
Are you a troll? They were concerned that the food in his lunch was not the same as other children? I find this part hard to believe. |
Can you please describe exactly what happened here? Did you make a complaint? |
I went to high school in the 90’s and I can remember probably less than 1% LGBT’s at my public school. My kids are 11 and 12 and not LGBT so far, but I’m just wondering if it is more prevalent nowadays, more prevalent at the independent schools, or are we just talking about it to ensure they are protected and others are educated about them? They are important members of our society and should be valued and protected. |
It’s fashionable nowadays since it counts as diversity, and it’s an easy claim for a white UMC family to make. |
We were not going to drag our DD through that. |
We were not going to drag our DD through that. |
So indefensible in the true sense of the word. |
I will say the families at FH lean more conservative but no excuse for Admissions to be that way...it seems to me the students are accepting of one another |
at our K-8 we have quite alot of MS exploring LGBTQ |
