Flint Hill and The Potomac School

Flint Hill can be as rigorous or not as you want it to be with a more homogenous mixing of student abilities. I found the parent and administrative communities to be open at FH compared to Potomac

+1 and assuming author meant heterogenous vs homogenous

With a Potomac school kid and a Cathedral school kid, I've noticed that the numbers are somehwat similar (combining STA and NCS). The kids who end up at UVA from both usually fall into one of two categories 1.) wanting a large university for college because sent entire life in small privates or 2.) following a family tradition.

Potomac ahead of FH.

We are in Virginia and looking. I am hearing better things about Flint Hill in more current posts. How do these schools compare today. Is this old post stil relevant?

Potomac far more "woke" than Flint Hill.

Really? My DS applied to FHS last year (ended up somewhere else) and they required a bunch of essay questions. (Parents had to write a bunch, too. To the point it was a bit of a turn off for the school). Several of them had to do with DEI and its importance. I’m in favor of DEI initiatives so the topic did not bother me, but it doesn’t seem like FHS is an anti-PC bunch.

Potomac Admissions never had enough spots on-campus visits. We might have applied but it’s a huge turnoff dealing with a school that has full visiting days but doesn’t ever bother with tours for people left out. Now it’s all virtual.

You must take the bus. Zero dance programs offered.

Well they didn’t stand in solidarity with the “black at” movement on Instagram. There was no page. Someone did how ever create “Dear Flint Hill”, where any minority or gay student who experienced micro aggressions could share (not the same), but stopped sharing student’s experiences after about 95 posts were shared.
Are they scared of black issues at Flint Hill? Hope they aren’t “Toming” over there or expecting Blacks to do so. That is somewhat a turn-off.

Big fan of both schools. Flint Hill is underrated IMHO.

We did the same. Driving to PS for 4 years just wasn’t possible.

Way way way more woke.

FHS doesn’t have the national recognition of PS but it was a much more pleasant experience. There are black students at FHS. In fact far more diverse than our local public school.

If that’s your criteria then best you go to a more woke school.

Pleasant for who?

FHS family here, totally agree. Both went through the US program and wouldn’t change a thing.
