Leave vet over heartworm medication policy?

See the FDA: https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/animal-health-literacy/keep-worms-out-your-pets-heart-facts-about-heartworm-disease

"If a heartworm-positive dog is not tested before starting a preventive, the dog will remain infected with adult heartworms until it gets sick enough to show symptoms. Heartworm preventives do not kill adult heartworms. Also, giving a heartworm preventive to a dog infected with adult heartworms may be harmful or deadly."

The dog WAS tested by the clinic in 2021 and had tested negative. To prescribe medicine they want that test AND proof he has been taking medication. The negative test done in 2021 alone will not get me medication at their clinic.

Above is the quote for when OP said they had a test at their main clinic. Reading comprehension.

Read the VERY FIRST POST. It was a different clinic, not her main vet. Reading comprehension.

Run, don’t walk.

OK Karen - how about producing the test results and calling the office?

OP said that the dog tested negative. Congratulations on calling an Indian woman Karen BTW.

Indian people can be named Karen too.....And yes the dog tested negative....so just get the results and share it with the office....

Reading comprehension fail. Don’t be so quick to insult without bothering to ascertain the facts. You just look stupid.

Wow! Someone is touchy. Vets are also a dime a dozen in this area. If you are so hostile to your clients they’re better off going elsewhere.

I agree. The vets posting here sound highly emotional and off balance. Maybe they shouldn’t be practicing medicine.

Also, confused about requiring a negative test- if you are giving your dog heartworm prevention medication consistently, why to they need a negative test?

Right? They wand BOTH a 2021 negative test which he has and was done at their clinic AND proof of currently being on medication. The medication came from another clinic last year due to moving around for work. It's like a catch-22. At other vet places I've been to all you needed was a current negative heartworm test.

OP clarified which clinic here. People shouldn’t post if they aren’t going to read the whole thread.

If vets are a dime a dozen, then why is everyone having such a hard time getting appointments.....trust me...I could cut off new clients for a month and still be busy.

Because your poorly paid vet techs aren't working for you anymore so you don't have enough staff on hand. The pet pandemic bump will be temporary. Enjoy it while it lasts, most of the newly acquired pets will become pound puppies and probably euthanized when the thrill of having a pet ends.
