right - but OP isn’t slandering PAVE because she thinks schools should have reopened sooner. Neither sector showed itself to be particularly dedicated to kids during the pandemic. Will be interesting to see how they do next year.

I’m slandering PAVE because they’re funded by the Walton family who want to destroy public schools to cut taxes on the rich.

The two biggest state and local budget lines are schools and police and prisons. There’s a reason the Waltons and Charles Koch fund school “reform” and prison “reform”. They don’t care about the kids or the prisoners. They just want to shrink government to cut taxes on the ultra rich (themselves.)

It’s just hard to take any school reform organization seriously if it takes money from bad actors. Maybe PAVE will do good. Or maybe they have secretive conflicts of interest that affect what they do. We don’t know.

you know who ACTUALLY destroyed my child's schooling for the past 1.5 years? The teacher's union.[b] So spare me the histrionics.

Yu call someone else out for "histrionics" while spewing histrionics of your own. Priceless.

Am I crazy or didn't a lot of charters stay closed (and are still more likely to pivot to virtual in 21-22). Didn't realize the WTU was strong enough to infiltrate them as well to make sure even more schooling could be "destroyed"

It's like the same argument from 2020. Maybe pay attention a bit and get new material?

First, the person who posted might indeed be in DCPS, so yeah, they union played a part in keeping schools closed.

Second, yes, when DCPS closes it impacts the charters through various channels (e.g., the charter teachers have kids at DCPS and need childcare) so the unions do impact the charter decisions.

Keep deflecting, though! You are totally winning hearts and minds!

Could care less about winning the hearts and minds of the stubborn people on this site who made their mind up 15 months ago

Oooo. Whataboutism. At least we have improved from histronic to logical fallacy.

You mean "couldn't care less."

Seriously though. PAVE is involved in getting parents engaged...in what? Can someone answer this?

I'm not sure how you can say that schools were closed for 1.5 years and then tell someone else they need new material. Maybe pay attention a bit and see that some DCPS buildings were open as early as January and served as much of their population as was possible under DC policies.

Oh this old canard about schools actually being open.

My child's HRCS is officially promoting the PAVE events. Meanwhile that same school is not open to parent feedback at their own school. Interesting.

I had no idea who they were. I just read their whole website and I still don't.

They position as neutral, but no one is neutral in education. What is their agenda?

Also, if they're all about "parent voice" I hope they were all about reopening schools last year.

Goal is to destroy the public school system. Or failing that, funnel the public money to charters, who underpay teachers and funnel the money to for-profit charter management organizations where the Waltons and other billionaires can capture the profits.

It’s a simple goal— it’s why the Waltons pay so many charter orgs.

It’s also not going to work. People are now on to what the Waltons and DeVos types are doing.

Source for these allegations?

Or are you just making stuff up?

I don't know what PAVE is, but if we aren't allowed to post unsupported allegations about WTU, it seems only fair that any allegations leveled at another entity should be held to the same standard.

to be fair, I think Jeff would delete some of the posts here if people flagged them. What’s going on is that there are clearly union shills on DCUM posting things like these vague allegations against PAVE, and also flagging for deletion anything that is overly critical of WTU by claiming it’s “false” and “deceptive.” For reasons I don’t fully understand Jeff has decided to affirmatively carry water for these flaggers by deleting anything they don’t like. He’s holding up statements about WTU to an absurd standard.

What untrue things are people saying about PAVE? Is it not funded by the Waltons? Are the Waltons not anti-union and pro-charter?

Well, for what it's worth, he can hold any statement to whatever standard he wants. He owns the site and decides what is and is not allowed.
