Almost 700k over asking in NW DC

Anonymous
We saw this house. Open house was absolutely packed. I can see how folks with traditional / colonial tastes would have fallen for it as it was very well prepped: nothing super high end, just everything cleanly renovated and in its place. Yes, the location/schools are great, but $2.3+?? I get the location argument, but this is just not a cool enough house for that even in this market.

Not comparable in terms of style/taste and walkability, but this place sold recently, also zoned for Murch, across the street from Rock Creek Park, about as close to downtown (and probably a nicer drive). I'd prefer this house at equivalent prices (e.g. even if the original house sold at $1.8), let alone with an extra $500k in my pocket...

On an unrelated note, remember the alleged story of a 2008 Trump sale of a house to a Russian billionaire at allegedly a premium?

Allegedly.

That is exactly along the lines of what we allegedly heard. Allegedly. One way to settle this, who’s the alleged buyer?

And they can explain why in the world someone would want to overpay for the house of someone who worked for an Administration that is no longer in power. Alleged Russian billionaires are smarter than that.

I love this modern house. It is architecturally distinctive, but the lot is not kid or pedestrian friendly. Basically, this is a house that you drive and in out of, as there is no sidewalk down this stretch of 27th. Pedestrians can walk at their own risk. I would not buy this house with young kids. Also, during the winter, it can even be a treacherous drive because it gets icy. If this house were on the other side of Military, or even on 28th St on the same side of Military, it would have gone for $500K more.

I saw the house in person too. I’m looking for a house around the $2m mark and I was not impressed. For me, I thought the garage converted to indoor room was strange, the upstairs hall bathroom was so tiny that the bathtub was a small diagonal tub, and the attic rooms were not great. The kitchen renovation looked fine but was 10 years old. Also it was right near Connecticut and Reno and big apartment buildings. I have no idea how this got to 2.3M.

It’s just a matter of taste. I absolutely love this one. The house in the OP is also spectacular, but I go for more modern looks. Different strokes.
