Off topic, but I’m curious: how are these museums funded?

Where are you from, PP? They are funded by the federal government. And before you try to start something, DC pays more federal taxes than 22 other states (highest per capita) and has over 700,000 residents with no representation in their government, including over 11,000 members of the military.

You mean the federal government takes tax dollars from hardworking Americans and funds said museums. To the tune of $1 billion dollars.

You can find weed everywhere. Such a blessing for us in the Commonwealth, but hopefully by next year it will be readily available here too.

Yes, how dare the government "steal" a whole $3 a year from each American to fund world class museums, free to everyone. Instead of educating our nation and inspiring future generations to take an interest in science, history, and the arts, that money certainly would have been better spent as a tax cut so that corporations could buy back even more of their own stock, and billionaires could add another wing to their mansion. Or maybe we could use it to fund our military even more than the next 7 countries combined. I'm sure another multi-trillion dollar military debacle with no results would do wonders for us as a nation. Even better, we could use it for prisons. We already imprison more people than any other nation, why not pad our lead a bit? Just think, we could give it to big agribusiness in yet another bailout so huge farming corporations can absorb even more family farms! Or if agribusiness bailouts aren't your thing, maybe we could bail out the financial industry again instead of punishing them for the criminal practices that got them into the situation that required a bailout in the first place!

The possibilities are endless!

It is literally the best part of dc.

I agree with this so much! Any time I go to New York I feel claustrophobic.

I also have to agree with this.

And so-called progressives and the woke DC council have intimidated the police into looking the other way rather than making arrests!

Apparently stealing food is one of the benefits to living in DC. Who knew?

But do you know the story of why? It's because a wealthy benefactor donated millions of dollars to the government to establish the Smithsonian museums via a trust. But instead of doing that, the government instead squandered the money on some boondoggle out in the midwest and lost all of it and was later ordered to make amends by funding the Smithsonian.

What's weird is people thinking stealing food is widespread and common in DC.
What's weird is people never having heard of very common expressions like "grabbing a bite to eat"

Where are you from? Clearly you aren't from DC or any other major metro area.

I’m from a place where people don’t have to steal food.
