Social climbing in the DC area: who are the “right people” to get in with?

One woman who I was friends with in my 20s in DC and was a snob and social status conscious is married to the most atrocious man, living in a shitty cape in Chevy chase and highly concerned about the joneses she can’t keep up with. She is miserable.

I know a couple of women like this actually. It’s been ... interesting to watch their marriages and families over time. Somehow they’re all still together but I wouldn’t bet on happiness. So much internal pressure to keep up, achieve, make things look good ... so false and exhausting.

LOL. Not this Administration.

+1. Clown show.

You must not be in DC. DC social circles are too happy that Biden is President. Now they can get back to having normal social circles. NO ONE Trump officials at their parties.

DCUM is the right social club you want to get in with. We love a good thread, just ask Bobcat Lady, Dirty Dice lady, Pinecone Mom, et al. We love a great thread!

+1 Most people probably have never heard of the Green Book. That Blue Book poster may be thinking of Kelley Blue Book lol?

Been in both Democratic and Republican administration and lobbyists social circles. Will say Republicans are friendlier and more fun. In Democratic circles, they’re far more impressed with themselves and serious.

(I’m a nerd not in politics at all.)

Pfffffft, those aren’t “yachts”. Those are strivers.

Real yachts are still in Lauderdale right now. And they don’t come to DC.

Ever.

You really gonna tell Michael Saylor that his 87 foot Moksha that is constantly parked at the Georgetown waterfront isn’t a “real yacht”?

You must be joking!

The helicopter alone on a actual yacht costs 2x more than his overgrown speedboat.

Is he still cruising the Georgetown waterfront trying to pick up 20-something hill interns and CofC and Georgetown grads on his yacht and living his Microstrategy millions? He was doing that 15 years ago back when I was in my mid-20s. If so, it reminds me of that scene in Dazed and Confused, "That's what I like about high school girls I keep getting older, they stay the same age." Both are pretty creepy now looking back on it.
