Social climbing in the DC area: who are the “right people” to get in with?

Anonymous
Oh dear god. Save yourself and your identity. One woman who I was friends with in my 20s in DC and was a snob and social status conscious is married to the most atrocious man, living in a shitty cape in Chevy chase and highly concerned about the joneses she can’t keep up with. She is miserable.

Fixed punctuation. I think you mean this:

Social climbing in the DC area: who are the right "people” to get in with?

Pfffffft, those aren’t “yachts”. Those are strivers.

Real yachts are still in Lauderdale right now. And they don’t come to DC.

Ever.

You really gonna tell Michael Saylor that his 87 foot Moksha that is constantly parked at the Georgetown waterfront isn’t a “real yacht”?

Yes. Neither Moksha nor Firefly are real yachts. And he knows it. But they can fit under the bridges, so they’re what passes for a yacht in DC. Anywhere else in the world of true yachts, an Azimut express cruiser is still just a “boat”.

Start with the folks mentioned in the coronavirus ballet party thread.

2nd the above. The real boats are in the Caribbean/Florida right now; they might stop off near Cape May or spend a week at New York yacht club before making the journey to Newport RI but they are not coming up into the bay and they’re definitely not going up the Potomac.

Yachts on the Potomac! Hilarious. Hey OP there’s a discussion thread on jet skis in this forum that might interest you!

In this town, it's all about the right jobs and the right education. Everything else is secondary.

Trashy yachts.

Try Newport for class.

Not “education”, but rather where you went to school.

Which definitely is not reflective of whether you’re actually educated or not.

A couple we were formerly friends with moved here and started on the fast track of social climbing, which happily for us left our now-former friendship in the dust. They seemed to have tremendous success schmoozing with other uppity parents at the fancy private school they sent their kids to. It seemed to open lots of doors for them to climb the social ladder. They love taking selfies with random deputy undersecretaries and other quasi-important people in their posse.

First marry rich, then social climbing will take care of itself!
